from Ananova:

Man jailed for fake Rolex watch

A Belgian man has been jailed for six months for wearing a fake Rolex .

A court in Dendermonde heard that the man, named only as Gunther R, 33, had been spotted by representatives of Rolex wearing the fake watch and they complained to authorities.

The judge ruled the man had knowingly bought the fake and sentenced him to six months in prison under laws for handling counterfeit goods.

He was also ordered to pay a £700 fine for breaching brand name registration laws.

I've been wearing fake watches for years and only 2 people have noticed. They also believed they were real.

What a bunch of tards.

I can't believe someone would do that. I bet the guy that dobbed him in is a virgin and can't keep a conversation with a chicky babe.

It seems strange to me that he's been charged. It seems like a case you could easily avoid by just playing dumb.

"oh, i bought it in thailand..the guy assured me it was real"

"yeah, i only paid $20 for it...are rolexes meant to be expensive or something ?"

"i can't say i've heard of the brand, so i wouldn't know that it wasn't the right price"

...

more likely he didn't know it was actually illegal.I think most people don't know that -wearing- counterfeit stuff is a crime.

I read about a similar story, a Sydney chick who was selling fake louis handbags to friends was busted - 12 months good behaviour bond and a $5500 fine. Wasn't there somone in Italy who was busted for wearing fake prada sunnies?

I think people should be arrested for putting GTR badges on their GTST.

Friend of mine recently in Venice tried to buy me a replica LV handbag, funnily enough the dodgy stalls were set up directly outside the real Louis Vuitton store *chuckle* Anyway they wouldn't sell to him because they thought he was an undercover cop trying ot bust them and he ended up having to shop around till someone would sell him one

If it was someone involved with the brand that spotted it, they could probably tell quite easily.

I was in hongkong a while ago buying fake levis and cks, a mate of a mate who worked for ck could see straight away they were fake just buy some missing/different stitching.

If you worked for rolex i'd say you could easily tell a fake rolex, and a lot of the fake watches sold in thailand are smaller and under-weight. A few years back i was comparing thailand Tag Heuer watches with a workmate that had a fake. We were going on about how they looked identical to the real thing, till another work-mate showed his. It's hard to say what the differences were, but you could certainly tell that his genuine one was different two both our fakies, even though it was the same model.

Buying a fake brand item is one thing...selling them is another.
