No mate....i have an IP6000 and have had to refill my black several times and it still works.I even bought a 2nd black cartridge cause it always seems to run out when you REALLY need to print something,usually at 2am when no one is open.

where did you get the refill kit from?

It's easy to refill yaself. I'm constantly doing it for the lass. Get the kits from somewhere like KMart. Or check Coles. They've got a Presstik Photo Quality Paper pack that comes with two black refills (Photo quality paper we found can be used very loosely). Roger that!! I guess it also depends on the quality of the ink's, had a customer that used refills on a brand new pixima and the head was rooted after 8 months use, the head costs about $125 to replace so yeah...
