not worth it

300mb for a 20 min level that really isn't "all that".

i think steam should be remembered for its physics engine which is amazing, but Hi def really isn't pushing the envelope

Its basically just a map that shows off some new rendering thing called HDR (which apparently has been in Far Cry for about a year, or so I read elsewhere on the internets?)

a 300mb map? sounds hardly worth it. unless this is the greatest map ever made that is. pictures of people playing it will be enough for me. also is it free or do you have to buy it?

Those screenies look like complete ass. Everything looks pixelated.

Pixelated? this is on a x800XT PE, 1024x786, max details/models, 2x aa / 4x af, pulling about 80-100 fps on that.

Nah it does look pixelated.

If it were OpenGL (which HL2 does not use), I would have said that the texture magnification was set to GL_NEAREST, ie, no blending nor mip-mapping. Just simple, rough and ugly texel calculations.

Here's an example I just made from Quake3 to illustrate.

NO texture blending

Here's a few I just grabbed with some SLI (7800gtx) goodness. Let the game set the paramters which were 4xAA/8xAF all settings on high, Full HDR, but I upped the resolution to 1280x1024 and it was very nice and smooth.

I might run it again tomorrow with the 'SLI AA' modes activated and see if there is any diff.

*warning not for the bandwidth impaired.

p.s make sure you look at them in the full res, firefox wants to scale them and they look ordinary at 86%.

Did anyone get MASSIVE Graphic Card issues with that 'game'?
On my 6600GT if I walked backwards for more than a few seconds everything would go black (I assume it's somthing to do with HDR Values becasue certain objects had greyscale shades to them).

Also, don't get it; its arse.

I like it, looks nice and adds a little to the hl2 world

and you dont download the whole 350mb
you only download about 96mb the rest comes from the hl2 install

Yes just finished LC and well, to be perfectly honest it was free.

Some fanciness but overall a bit meh.
One thing that did strike me is that the AI is pretty average. I fell to my doom off the cliffs at the start, and as I splattered on the rocks the old fisherman started telling me to hurry up.
Well, I certainly would have liked to, but unfortunately my rapid descent due to gravity hampered all efforts to maintain a upward trajectory.
Stupid fisherman.

The Combine people, while on a good day I am sure perform their soldiering excellently, didn't really bring the pain either. I guess 'looking' is more the focus of this add-on/map/overhyped eye candy (that quite frankly isn't amazing, just impressive). The enemies were pretty lame.

The whole experience was over before I knew it...
... and the game didn't last long either ;)

Recommended for when you have to show a noob like your mum some 'cool graphics'.

BTW:
i think steam should be remembered for its physics engine which is amazing

Gamespy physics engine>Steam physics. You can tell just by looking.

wow, that was really really .... short. Looked nice though, i just expected more than 10mins of gameplay, hoping more for an hour or so given how long this has been in development but thats what you get for free. I thought the effects of HDR were a little excessive, as in not all that realistic but im sure HDR will be improved heaps a few years down the track, especially with next gen engines that'd have this kind of technology built into it from the ground up.

the steam engine makes battlefield look like ass - but i guess each engine is built for different gameplay, bf doesn't need the physics
