I caught the tail end of pokemon the other night while channel surfing, holy nutsack nibblers that was some whack s***.
& yeah, seems like most of the "kids" cartoons have those giant eyes the ^_^ keke laughs & stuff, not that I watch a whole load of cartoons so I may also be talkin outa my ass

Asianization of cartoons is not good or for the better, it's different .. i don't like cartoons that give you an epileptic fit with flashing lights etc

Also, they arent all jap anyway. Look at all the new s*** from Warner Bros and Gennedy Tartakofsky (Samurai Jack etc). Everyones quick to draw anime paralells just cos its a little more realistic.

Worst case example was the most recent X-Men cartoon series. What the f*** was that? I don't actually watch cartoons anymore but i flick channels...and I remember cyclops looking like some gangly rednut geek?!

Feel sorry for the kids today, they miss out on all the violent oldskool cartoons where everyone looked like they were on steroids, and all the chicks wore were tribal bikinis! Now all they have is pokemon and that stupid half-lepoard jungle creature thing.

Yeah I hate the flashing backgrounds like they're going somewhere, and the mouths all move the same, okay this is fine for asians thats what they are used to. But for some reason, the pokemon style crap, anime, is now taking over. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy anime ( woteva u call it) but i dont want it on these cartoons.

yeah most cartoons now you will find are just basicly copying the japanese style anime because as they tried with pokemon and dragon ball z, its insanely popular (f**ked as funimation made it with their s*** dubs and kiddy rating). in a way it grinds my gears that the US take these great animes and ruin them with their hardcore metal soundtracks, obviously horrible voice acting (yu-gi-oh anyone? the main guy sounds like he is 45 with a bad cold) and overall dumbing down the entire show. if they wanna copy the style of drawing however, just shows they got no real tallent and need to steal ideas.

Hah, it doesnt really matter what kind of animation a show has. main problem is almost all the new cartoons are just plain s***e. Especially on cartoon network. So many trashy, ugly, badly voiced shows lacking in creativity or quality in any quantity.

I think some of you are confused over the difference between asian style animation and surrealism. A lot of modern cartoons (invader zim, for example) use surreal artistic effects such as using curved lines where there should be straight lines and vise versa. Details also tend to be over simplified or over detailed. This style of drawing just happens to look like anime. I'm not saying that western cartoons aren't copying asian animation style, because they are. It's just not as bad as people assume.

speaking of invader zim, its a damn shame that was canceled. that was the greatest cartoon on tv today and they got rid of it. i've got 2 paperback collections of johnny the homicidal maniac, and SQUEE'S wonderful big giant book of unspeakable horrors both by jhonen vasquez and his style never changed. its got a twist of anime style in it but his work is just fantastic. best books ever. we need more cartoons like zim.

Twaddle. I take it you don't watch Adult Swim (www.adultswim.com) then? Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Sealab 2021 and Venture Bros all use HB style animation, and in some cases HB characters
