Heres the situation..
Selling gas guzzling 4WD for economical family car that can pull a 16foot boat, and hold a fair amount of stuff in the back.
Any suggestions?

Probably another 4WD, but this time with a turbo-diesel engine is the way to go...

Else you could get a Falcon running LPG.

XR6 or XR8 maybe?

I'd say Renault Laguna SII, but you need to tow that boat. Not sure a 1.8L or 2.4L Laguna could really do that.

A Commodore or Falcon. Rear wheel drive 6 cyclinder can tow up to 2800 kg with correct towing setup

Our VT wagon (which we just traded in) was perfect we could fit a heap of crap in the boot and hook up a camper trailer/boat and go camping etc.

Are you on drugs Greg.cx?? 2800kg's?
Even with proper electric brakes and the right setup you are struggling to pull 2 tonne with a Commy or the like.

I doubt he'd be towing anything over 1700kg which is what most car's are rated at towing.

Get yourself a Subaru liberty man. 3.0R or 3.0RB :)
It will do the job, and beats the pants off a commodore or falcon.
They are wonderful cars.

Don't rule out protons.. nifty cheap little cars that are bulletproof (except if shot at by actual bullets)

heh that was funny
he gets the car all pointed up like that, then backs off and has another go and gets up before glen can grab the camera

so we tell him to do it again for some pics and now he keeps getting up the hill instead of getting it stuck in that rut again =]

Diesel or LPG something. But the price of petrol is the least of your dollar worries if you own a 16 foot boat.
