the pc thread defi made was actually me, LAWL

basically, my stupid fkin mum if she sees my computer running, will just flick it off at the wall. even if iv gone out for 15minutes, she will turn it off.

i have specifically told her, hundreds of f***ing times, to leave it on. the PC is in my room, it makes no noise, i have headphones, it doesn't affect her in the slightest. i told her if it s***s her, shut my door, just dont flick it off at the wall coz it f***s it, hell if you realy want to turn it off, get dad or my sister to shut it down properly.

so anyway i come home yesterday, and theres my pc, flicked off at the wall, again. i flick it on, and thats where the spark flew out and my psu / mobo / cpu fried in 1 go.

so now, im asking the bitch to pay? thats fair isnt it? oh yeah, all those 100's of times i told her not to turn it off, i also said hundreds of times its bad for the pc and can damage it.... did she care?

so basically she definitely knew it was a) bad for it, and b) that id said not to do it, but she still did it anyway. and now she wont even give me a cent

what a f***in mole. i paid for the whole pc too. i dont just have half a g to shell out to buy a new pc.

where is your proof that turning off a pc is bad for it maybe when you started you didnt turn it on incorrectle?
Why does she tern it off is it because your are not contributing to the power bill?

If this was my mum when I still lived at home I would have taken all the lights out of my computer and put in a quiet fan and allways turn the monitor off, Failing that I would have built a small ups inside my box and make it shut down properly as soon as the pc has turned off.

Unfortunatly the person paying the powerbill has the right to do what they like, you do have the right to move out.

denominator, i agree with you, but in this case, existence is right. His mum should shell out for a new pc because after specifically being told to not turn it off at the wall, she does, therefore rendering her liable for such damages.

Also, how the f*** do you not turn on a pc in the correct way? There is one way

also, fullset kthxbi

on a serious note, my sister used to turn my comp off at the world, one day she blew the PSU and fried the mobo/cpu just like you, except because she was like only 13 she couldnt pay, i played the guilt trip on mum and 2 days later my paid to rebuild my computer :D

just give her major guilt trip, normally works on mums

I don't see it as being your mum's fault, YOU turned it on. I mean if she hadn't turned it off there wouldn't be a problem but I'm sure the way your mum sees it, YOU turned it on YOU blew the computer.

you are deadset kidding me right? you cannot be that silly. you have contradicted yourself

you say
I mean if she hadn't turned it off there wouldn't be a problem
- meaning its his mums fault

then
YOU turned it on YOU blew the computer
- then meaning its his fault

His mum turned it off at the wall, repeatedly after petey asked her not to, she f***ed the stuff, she should pay for it. Also, how else was he sposed to turn it on? Was he just sposed to leave it?

If your mum has to pay for a new PC, do you have to pay for a share of the electricity, your room, food, and any other utilities? Sure does suck when you're getting a free ride, man, your parents are the worst.

All you need to do is grab her by the neck and rub her face into the power point and give her a few smacks across the nose. That should stop any future problems. You shouldn't even have to say a word during it.

You do know that turning the PC off at the wall is not harmful in anyway to the hardware. The only reason they ask you to shutdown is so the OS can close open files properly and prepare itself to be turned of.

I'd look further into the problem, in the end it could have been a power surge from Energex causing it which means you can claim for those type of appliance failures.

Or faulty wiring maybe? Do you blow a lot of lightbulbs in your house? I know since I've moved back home, the wiring in my parents house is a bit dodgy, they blow a lot of lightbulbs (been through 3 in the computer room in the 8 months I've been here), and I've already blown a PSU since I've been here too. s*** happens though, deal with it, grow up and stop playing the blame game.

Correct and now we use NTFS it doesn't matter at all, reset or turn off your comp all you like without shutting down and it will be fine. Back in the FAT days though that s*** f***ed stuff up.

The only problem I can see with doing that is the HDD may not park itself properly and if you move the comp around you could damage the platters. However these days it would not suprise me if HDD's auto park themselves with the last bit of juice if the power suddenly dissapears.

This is rediculous. Why didn't u just setup the PC so when u hit the power button on the box it shuts down windows properly and then turns off?

And as ticman said, I don't see how suddenly cutting the power is gonna fry it, but i really don't know about that.

Maybe, it just seemed a bit excessive compared to other places I've lived in, and lots of lights blow pretty regularly all over the house. I dunno, I'm not an electrician, it just seemed abnormal to me :P

if u have such a problem, then move out of home.

If your going to live in her house eating her food and using her electricity then your going to have to deal with following her wishes. If she wants yoru computer turned off, its your fault for not turning it off and she has every right to turn it off at the wall after you had the chance to turn it off yourself.

Your getting all pissy over something that is ultimatly your fault - if you did what she asked in the first place your computer would be fine.

who cares, it all boils down to this asshat having no respect for his mother. Regardless of excuses, you dont need your computer on while your not there and she has every right to turn stuff off that is wasting power that she is paying for.

A solution would be to calculate how much your computer uses for a year and pay her in a lump sum for the power that your computer uses. THat wasy she will be happy and so will you.

Stop leeching off your parents and treating them like s***.

Why would the PC be running when you aren't there? Leaving a PC on while your not there is stupid. If your not in control, s*** might happen. Hardware, Software, People, Many things. Only have your PC on when your in the house.

If suddenly turning off the power to a PC was bad for it, why do PC's still have reset buttons? The hardware ( aside from maybe hdd parking heads ) should be able to handle being turned off at the wall, but that's already been covered already.

I think the best thing for you to do is go talk to your mother, apologise for not respecting her and her rules and explaining what has happened to your PC in simple friendly terms telling her that you think that the power off at the wall contributed to the hardware failure and that you would appreciate it if when you rebuild your PC she will use the "power" button on the front of the PC to turn it off in future. Also that you will try to respect her rules by turning your PC off when you're not using it. You could even politely ask her to meet you half way on the repair bill.

this is obviously the work of ninjas. Even my mum knows how to correctly shut down my PC, that's about all she knows how to do on a pc too. Turn it on and turn it off.

Next time you leave your computer on put superglue on the wall switch so you can't just turn it off, glue the plug into the socket so you can't just pull it out and glue the switch on the PSU on too. Then if she's stupid enough to cut the cord with scissors (lets all hope she is) she'll die and that'll be the end of her f***ing with your pc.

Hey I have another avenue you might want to look at.
There is a very good chance it was not her fault at all considering all the storms we have had over the last couple of days.

Most of the time a spike or surge will only blow the PSU or modem and possible the mainboard. I find it unlikey all 3 or 4 components are screwed. If that has happened then you might want to look at insurance as your home and contents would probably cover it.

If you think your mum is a mole I think it is time u moved out.

"Man you live with your parents and they like, give you food and stuff! It's totally OK for your mum to blow your s*** up and then not pay for the s*** she broke, even after she's been told many times before not to do it!"

I'm 100% with Pete on this one. His mother sounds like a f***ing douche. If there was a problem with him living with her, and her paying for his food and s***, I'm sure she would have said so - not just blown his f***ing PC up. Get off your soapboxes you f*****s, you don't know their situation, so don't speculate.

The bottom line is, there's pretty much no doubt that what Pete's mum did caused his CPU to fry, and now she is refusing to pay for s*** that she broke. f*** that noise.

Funny thread, whoop's comment was a classic, superglue ftw.

As for the whole issue at hand, i'm against abusing your ma on a forum, however i do think she should pay for repairs/new components because it was most likely her who fried it. However its already been said, best way to talk to your mum is in a civil tone and normally things swing your way.

Anyway best of luck with a new pc.

Yeah, theres no doubt, except of course for the thread full of people posting about how turning the PC on/off at the power point wouldn't cause it to explode. Sometimes, s*** just happens. Did his mum contribute to the PC dying? Maybe, maybe not, no real way to tell is there. But "OMG I hate you, buy me a new PC you dirty mole" is far from the best way to go about things. I mean, show a bit of respect for f***s sake.

If there was a problem with him living with her, and her paying for his food and s***, I'm sure she would have said so

Doesn't sound like she has a problem with him at all, it sounds like its him that has the problem with her. And in that instance, if he doesn't like it, he can just move out. If he chooses to stay there though, getting free food and board and utilities and whatever else, then its only fair he live by their rules. If the rule is "turn your computer off when you go out", well, then, turn your computer off when you go out. Its hardly rocket science.

But you're right on one point, we dont really know the situation, he might actually be paying board and paying his share of the utilities and buying his own food. In that case, he has every right to a bit of privacy in his own room and his mother coming in and messing with his stuff would be something to take issue with. But even in that case, it doesn't hurt to handle things with a bit more maturity.

I cant see why turning the power off at the wall could fry your puter.

Perhaps if you had a dodgy PSU, in which case it wouldnt be your mums fault. Turning the power off at the wall repeatidly isnt going to fry your psu. It might corrupt a file or two, that is easily fixable.

Sounds like you just got unlucky. Deal with it.

Have you even tested all the components in another computer to see if they really are dead?

As people have said above, if you dont like living by the house owners rules then leave the house. If you can afford to purchase a computer yourself, and do it again in the event of destructi0n, then you can easily afford to live away from home.
Perhaps you are scared of moving out of your comfort zone and all the hate towards your mother and probably others in the house stem from something like that.

WW your thread makes me want to strangle you....whats wrong with having beer in the fridge...and the hot water system,by god do you know anything? It takes time for water to heat up you know,it doesnt come through the pipes to us already hot,the hot water system has to be on to HEAT IT UP.

Alot of you are failing to see the underlying fact. People are saying "His mum caused it by turning the PC off at the wall", I reckon HE caused it because he knew leaving his PC on would result in it being turned off at the wall (I Would assume by the person paying the electricity Bill).

All of this could have been avoided simply by TURNING YOUR OWN PC OFF. Why is it every thing in life is someone elses fault?

treat your mother better assbite.

in the big scheme, it's highly unlikely that your mother caused the damage. sure, i tell people not to turn my gear off at the wall, but it doesn't really make a difference.

speak to energex maybe.

or there's always the devious option. even knowing that she didn't cause the damage, you could always do what the people above suggested and be civil and ask for help paying for new equipment, after being really nice. i mean, it's not like SHE knows that she didn't cause the fault. but that's just devious....it's the kind of thing i'd do.

but really, don't be a little s*** to your mum

ok you people have missed the point. wow what a unregular occurance on this board.,,

firstly, i do respect my mum. the mean words were just my r4g3 about the topic, the way i type stuff about her shows very little how much respect i have towards her, and dont f***ing tell me to respect my mother more when you dont even know me, or her

the point i was trying to make was that regardless of the reason, i had asked her not to turn it off at the wall hundreds of times.. it was my stuff, my room, my electricity THATI f***ING PAY FOR. hey thats another thing, all u f***ing cockhats going on about food water etc. DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT f***ING "PAYING BOARD" IS? OBVIOUSLY NOT, cause youre a bunch of f***ing babied f*****s. i pay 60/week board which covers more then what i consume. also, PC's chew fk all juice so stfu.

the only reason i was angry in the first place is cause she flatly refused to pay anything, and was rude about it.

now her and dad have talked, and theyve agreed to pay half. which is working out to $180.

all you judgmental f***s can stfu coz you obviously have no clue.

No, you have missed the point. Your mum turning the PC off at the wall and your PC dying are two completely unrelated issues. Deal with it. If you really respected your mum, you wouldn't talk about her like that.

I know her intimately.

I'm not sure whether I'm agreeing with capt'n cockmunch here or not but this was like, back in the dream time, I heard from a prety unreliable source turning your computer on/off at the wall alot was infact bad for it and could possibly cause it to fail because of the constant heatup/cool down of the electronic components inside maybe causing the PCB to expand/contract & break some of the tracks/solder joints. Now I have no idea how accurate that s*** is and it had more to do with 486dx type computers, but I seroiusly doubt it.

you asked for opinions so why are you reacting that way when you're given them?

you showed outright disrepect and contempt for your mother, regardless of whether or not you claim to respect her. the way you type stuff about her shows in great detail what disrespect you have for her. the fact that you think otherwise strongly highlights your immaturity

you seriously have absolutely no clue whatsoever, and the more you react and rant and rave the more you provide evidence of that. the question is, when will you finally wake up to yourself?

lol @ Ab. telling everyone here to STFU and everyone here has no clue.

Well: Rage induced rants with no background specifics = speculation from the public.

Next time you feel the need to vent online in the forum be sure to include such important information like "i pay for this" "i do that" , so on.

Firstly, you did nothing in your original post but bag your mum, giving a huge impresesion you have no respect.Funny, I thought having respect for someone would mean you wouldnt go around calling them a mole, even if raged you fkn mygot.

Not only that, but you bitched, whinged and didnt give the full story. Then you bitch and whinge about how people should know the full story... I think you just want to bitch and whinge, how emo. ha your emo!

Also $60/week is very cheap. Go live away from home in a place that is $60/week..
