I'm having a mayor networking problem. this is the set up

Used to work now it doesn't and im sick of having to change the internet over when mum turns her comp on or off. What would i need so i could have the internet running striaght into the hub(what cables) and what settings.

does your modem have an ethernet port? if it does plug the modem into the hub as well instead of the office pc and you'll be able to use the internet regardless of whether your mum's pc is turned on or not.

Can you do that? Even use a USB cable to connect the modem to the switch/hub would still work if it's possible in your particular setup. Then you just need to enable DHCP options in the hub and set IPs to sutomatic for each of the computers.

What kind of internet you got? What you need is what gimpy said...a router.Ive got one hooked up to 4 pc's and a hub,and another 2 pc's running off the hub and dont have a problem in the world =)

Get ADSL Modem that's able to authenticate & do Internet Sharing (NAT). They're not exy anym ore

why in the hell are you using a hub to connect just 2 computers? crossover cable ftw.

anyway, no you can't plug a usb cable into an ethernet hub, you're not on telstra cable are you?

As if you need to plug the modem straight into the hub.

I have an internet server that routes internet for the rest of my network.

What windows are the computers using jigz?
Surprisingly Windows XP network setup works well!

for some reason the networking works sometimes and other times it doesnt, so im just gunna keep fiddling with it :)
