So what's whappening is when I attempt to play a game my computer is locking up, basically start playing for a few mins then it locks up, audio repeats or continues to play and then a high pitch squeal starts to emit from speaks/headphones until the computer finally reboots. Happens in win2k(which Im using currently) and winxp home.

Specs
Asus A8V deluxe
AMD 4000+
Gexcube Radeon 9800XT
1gb Geil ram
SB audigy 2 ZS
200gb Seagate 7200 SATA
80gb Seagate 7200

Doesnt happen in older games like GTA2 n s*** but in HL2, GTA:SA etc it does it.

Ok, has anything changed on a hardware or software level?

Ok this is how the story goes, when i first got the machine the vid card was stuffed anyway got it replaced and then all was fine, I remember playing through HL2 fine, its just something that has happened over the past few months.

I thought maybe it was xp so I went back to win2k and it was still there.

Thats a log from ATItool while I was playing GTA:SA the final temp was when the machine went kaput. Does it seem to high?

For a start, XP is better than 2k for games. So wrong choice made there.

Do you have another video card you can test with? That would be the easiest way.

I'd say 80 is a bit too high. my cpu used to crash at 80

As I usually say in these situations: grab a large desk or pedestal fan, place it 40cm away from the PC, and aim it directly at your motherboard from a slight angle.

If your PC takes longer to crash than normal, chances are that you have an overheating issue.

I'm pretty well sure that Troy @ CA is well versed in these kinds of problems

Just ran this directx 9 stress test tool thing, had it running and the temp went up to 87degrees, started to see white little spots in the model after awhile. But it didnt crash.

What did the temp hit when you ran the test?

Sounds like a heating issue to me..

the temp went to 87 during the test, however it didn't crash.

Meanwhile I have found this http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=21230

Basically a s***load of people with the same soundcard as me having the same problem with the computer crashing and the squealing noise, but there is no fix for it yet, most people have bought diffrent sound cards :(

make sure the gpu fan is working some else here had a the same problem recently tho he got black screen's of death, also try it case open with a desktop fan blowing cool air at it, might want to reseat the ram / vid card and cpu also, clean any dust out while your there. :)

EDIT: Try the audigy in a diff pci slot..

I'd go with the pedistal fan idea. If that fixes the issue then I would go a 3rd party fan for your vid card.

if it doesn't then I would try removing your vid card and wireless card if u are using it.

also 1 other thing.
if it is the card then obviously the card has deterioated over the last couple of months OR you have updated the drivers that has possibly pushed the card a bit harder than previous drivers in some appications.

However usually faulty video cards are pretty obvious.

Dodgymon, the last card I had did the same thing after awhile, anyway the pedestal fan does work in some games but games like BF2 that push it hard still lock up after awhile. Standard ATI catalysts have been used.

I might drop into CA today and just pickup a new card, I'm not gonna even bother about RMA'ing this card cuz it's just a f***around.
