So, I saw NIN in Melbourne last night, I can't remember when they're playing QLD but I'm guessing it's in the next few days. Firstly, it was a fantastic show, Trent has shaved his head and put on a bit of weight. He didn't say much to the crowd which was a bit disapoiting and the only stuff he did really say is the stock standard (what all bands say), "it's been too long since we were out here last", blah blah blah. The show went for a bit over 1 1/2 hrs and there were no breaks or encores, they seem to be finishing all their sets off on this tour with Head Like a Hole so if your going, when they play that expect the show to be finishing afterwards. I was kinda surprised to see them selling t-shirts for their entire catalog of albums, there was even Pretty Hate Machine shirts. The set list off the top of my head and in no particular order:
Pinion Wish Sin March of the Pigs Hand that Feeds Terrible Lie The Line Begins To Blur Something I Can Never Have Love Is Not Enough Closer The Frail The Wretched With Teeth Reptile Burn Dead Souls Gave Up Starf***ers Hurt The Day The Whole World Went Away Don't You Know What You Are Suck Head Like A Hole The highlights of the show for me were Dead Souls and The Day The World Went Away. I have never heard them play Dead Souls live and it was also the first Nine Inch Nails song I ever heard so I couldn't believe when they played it, for those unfamiliar with this song, it's a song they did for The Crow soundtrack back in '94. The Day The World Went Away, I love the live version they do of this, it's the extended version they did the music video for, it's extended to about 6 and a half minutes and gives the song so much more depth. They also played a few riffs from Down In It during the middle of Closer, and during Starf***ers (which I thought was a nice touch), because the song was written about Marilyn Manson, towards the end of the song he sung, I want you, I want the Beautiful People. Anyway, I highly recommend going if you haven't already sourced yourself tickets yet. After the QLD show, post your reviews here. |

Regarding the BNE event .. nice!
The guitarist did indeed have issues. He freaking disabled half the drumkit 3/4 of the way through ... and waved his guitar around and behind his head, flipping it and s*** like a retard. Other than that I quite enjoyed my night ... I think Trent needs to hit the gym :) Here is a low-res, low-light phone shot: http://www.powerup.com.au/~boldajis/images/nin_blur.jpg last edited by parabol at 00:54:02 23/Aug/05 |

Couldn't agree more parabol, that guitarist was doing some funky s***.. Not sure why it was necessary to take out the drum kit in the middle of a song, but I did lol when he and trent absolutely showered the keyboard player/keyboard in water and both pegged bottles at him :P
Crowd was pretty goddamn annoying.. is the single aim of going to a concert to drown out the band and steal the show by absolutely SHOUTING the lyrics before the band even reaches that part of the song? Not to mention the other irrelevant inane hollering - honestly, who the hell yells "QUEENSLANDER!!!!" at three trillion decibels in the middle of a song. I expected the goths to be there (I have never seen so many fishnet clothes on men before..), but not bloody rugby rednecks. |

He put on a good concert, but it was a bit stale. No interaction with the crowd. Just on, sing all songs, and off again. I wouldn't say it was worth the price tag.

That guy was acting like that at the Melbourne show aswell, he didn't do anything to the drumkit but came close to screwing the keyboard, in the middle of show he got up on it and started walking around on it while the keyboarder was playing... he must do s*** like this often, but the keyboarder gave him one mighty shove and sent him flying.... i just think it would have been great it he didn't land on his feet though ;) btw, can you remember much of the setlist? |

It was very similar to what you posted. I can't tell you how close it was, as I haven't really listened to any NIN albums after 2002 (or so), so there were a few songs that I didn't recognise nor like. It ended with Head Like a Hole too.
'Something I can never have' was very, very good. Wow ... |

Why would you want to listen to some muso's prattle on about crap when you can have more of what you paid for? More bands should do this, I know Rammstein do and it's awesome. |

Yeh setlist was identical to the one you posted nailbomb. I didn't particularly enjoy any of the With Teeth songs, and didn't recognise a couple (but now know what they are). The frail --> the wretched was absolutely awesome.
Sure less interaction = more song time, but it was hardly the world's longest setlist anyway... he could have easily tagged on a "hello, brisbane" or introduced a song (there was at least one track that nobody around me seemed to know, heh.) |

Did you also see at the end of the concert when the guitarist completely destroyed his guitar and knocked over the amp? That was pretty funny :D |

I was amazed they could pour water all over the keyboards and not completely ruin them.

Awesome night. Highlights for me was Burn and The Wretched. I did think it sounded a little to "rehearsed" or something. One of my favourite things about live gigs is the jamming in the middle of songs or extended intros etc. so you don't always know what to expect. Closest they got to that was inserting bits of other songs into others or doing extended bits that are the same as on other live cd's and stuff. However, still awesome.
