Who is playing and when? Heats start on Monday and finish Thursday and the finals are on the Friday of nextweek.

I'm playing solo as Billy Hardball and the Fasttracks and will play on Monday night at 6.30pm. I really don't like performing solo but was too slack to get a band together in time. 2 out of the past 3 years has been won by a solo act though.

The heats are on upstairs above the red room in either the Heath or Holt room (they are right next door). The pic is taken at the RE last time I played there.

The Band comp last year had a lot of suckage. I hope it is better this year.

Hardball could have been harder, but otherwise it was pretty good. One problem was of course the lack of crowd, kinda made it hard to get any sort of atmosphere going but I'd say they pulled it off well given the lack of preparation.

I actually had a dream last night that doob got shot by some crazy f***er with a shotgun while at UQ.

Heat was good... I ended up playing with an old mate. He and I were out till 2.30am yesterday morning drinking, and then had a quick 1 hour practice yesterday afternoon before the gig. Those things considered we played pretty well. I also forgot my capo so I had to quickly learn how to play one of the songs in a different key... didn't sound anywhere near as good.

I was quite happy. Didn't read the judges responses, cause last yaer they were just union people who really had no idea about music. I think it might be different this year, but still, it's not like they are record label rep's so who gives a s*** what they say. Doubt we'll make the finals cause we were sooooo mellow.

Oh, the judges were all really nice and so was the soundy. Never hurts to go to talk to the judges before and after your gig just to let them know that you aren't a tosser (despite how you act onstage - nothing hotter than arrogant rock stars). And if all bands don't know to be nice to the soundy, then you will never make it. You want him to be your best friend. The guy last night was good and I could ask him to change the sound and he would be happy to do so, but in the end I was too hungover to care about a little bit more reverb here and there.

We finished our 3rd last song which my mate had just learned a couple of hours prior to the gig, and it has a squillion chord changes and even a key change for the bridge and is really vocally intensive, and after we had finished it I was just thinking to myself, "Thank f*** that's over."

The judges last year were tossers, imho. They didn't really justify there decision. Well see what happens tommorow.

heh we only finished writing our songs today so tomorrow should be interesting to say the least. i doubt we will make the finals, the judges aren't very fond of our style of music - its more an australian idol than a battle of the bands..

I agree that the judges last year were tossers. But that's why you shouldn't even bother reading the comments they make. Sure, look at hte scores they gave you, but force yourself to not read what they wrote, cause who are they?

You should read it. Even if you think they are tossers, its probably a good source of honest criticism. Who cares if they aren't record producers, they are consumers and listeners of music. Also wouldn't the comments be more usefull than the score.

I was just thinking that that is a bit dodge that they have told you that already (I assume they told you that and you aren't just guess;) seeing as there is still another whole day of bands left. Yet another reason not to look at the score sheet I guess. One band was told last year by one of the judges that they would make the finals before they even played, because one of the judges has seen them play somewhere else recently. That sorta thing s***s me off!

well yeah they told us after we played to keep friday night free so it's still up in the air -

I didn't see any other acts this year. I saw a band that I know was playing but they now have a chick singing... not a fan. What's the talent like? It's usually pretty decent but with the odd terrible band here and there. The finalists last year were all pretty good which I like to see. Then again, I was so wasted I would have loved anything that night... and I did;)
