I'm thinking about upgrading to a new CPU but there's far too many AMD choices. The main activity for this CPU will be gaming. Albeit, I'm not a hardcore gamer so FPS is not the ultimate goal here. My current CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2800.

- Will a Sempron 64bit 3000 S754 CPU run like ass for gaming or is it sufficient?
- Should I get the non 64bit option in the S754 style?
- Or is it time to lash out for a an Athlon 64?

Cheers

I am running an 1800, and it runs wow/ut2k4 just fine.

You say your not a hardcore gamer? Yet a 2800 is not sufficient?

go 3500xp 64 venice at gamedude for 359$ (if its still on sale-im not sure i got it 2 weeks ago). then upgrade ure mobo to fatal1ty nf4 if you want a biggger boost, then get a 6800 gt for that extra bit of enjoyable performance ;)

I'm contemplating the ugprade to cater for an application that needs SSE2/SSE3 .. *cough*.

I've yet to get this particular application to run though so it might be a moot point, but if it does run then it's time to upgrade.
