Is it cool to format a laptop like you would normal PC. This one is a Toshiba one with WinXP and it's full of adware and other stuff and the thing is soooo slow. Takes nearly 5 minutes to open My Computer it's that slow.

Anyway, wanna chuck on Win2k so is it the normal procedure of just chucking the cd in and booting up and going from there?

Thanks in advance.

Should be fine.

EDIT: As long as you've got a driver CD (or can download them) when you reinstall 2k.

I've written down the name of the video card in it, but apart from I shouldn't need anything else. Just format and install all the important stuff. Sounds like a plan.

Thanks dude.

Hehe, I hope so. The formatting has begun, no turning back now. Anyway, this lappy is like 3 years old now and only has a celeron 1.02gig cpu I think and about 256 ram as well. Nothing fancy but good enough for uni work I guess.

Random formatting people's stuff tip:

Find and download Belarc Advisor.

This program gives you a full system spec report including device details and allows you to get the software license keys for loaded software, most notably windows and office. Saves you using illegitimate licenses or buying new ones for OS etc.

It can probably very easily be used for evil as well though so umm be good ;)

Edit : Too late now I see oh well :)

holy s***.

DONT FORMAT, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

Toshibas, usually have a recovery dvd, just put it in and follow the instructions.

This is assuming...

1) Its under warranty and you have the recovery cd's
2) You dont have some spare copy of winxp pro sitting around unactivated that you have been waiting to put on.

If you do format the pc, and then try to use the recovery dvd, you will probably be greeted with a nice msg that will say "Sorry, this is only for use on the notebook it came with, please come again"
