The difference between you downloading it and me downloading it, is that I'm downloading it so that more Australians can get it faster. I've only JUST got home, like, 4 hours after this thing came out, and now I'm replying to your accusation that I'm doing it because I'm greedy or something. Now I'm home, like a lot of other people who work, I can download it from an Australian mirror.

In general, I find that whether people want to download from the USA at the same time as me or not, they are lame anyway.

Alternitavely, you could do the logical thing, and search around for local mirrors, which would do everyone a favour. That's what they're there for.

look fair enough - good for you if you're mirroring it and all, but it's not like that gives you more rights to the download. just because john citizen's only downloading it to play himself, and you're downloading it to mirror it to others, that doesn't mean he's an a****** or a lamer just because he might like it a bit sooner.

In this situation, I would agree that I was arrogant if I'd wanted all the bandwidth to myself for myself. As I've said, repeatedly, this was not the case.

it IS arrogance to believe that your own personal agenda, whether that be helping other people or not, somehow puts you in front of others when it comes to access rights.

So you'd rather have 150 people all downloading the one thing, generating much more traffic and much more costs for everyone in terms of bandwidth? Why is it MY personal agenda? How does it benefit me, personally? It f***ing doesn't.

I don't consider it a right for me at f***ING ALL to have that bandwidth; I'm sure there's probably a bunch of cable-leeching gumbies out there that are busily downloading pr0n and other useless s*** that is taking up more bandwidth than a couple of people downloading this demo. You've turned a whimsical statement I made, fairly half-heartedly and not at all seriously into something that's really pissed me off, because I have to sit here and waste more of my time trying to justify my actions that I did for the benefit of OTHER f***ING PEOPLE? How does that work? How much spare time do you think I have?

The "read between the lines" thing that Koopz appears to be the only one reading this thread to pick up is that the simple truth is - if less people in .au had downloaded it at the same time that I was trying to mirror it, it might have come down a little faster, thus enabling more people to get it at the same time. This would have had the benefits of significantly reduced international traffic bills for overseas, reduced waiting and download times for people wanting to download it, more efficient distribution of an (obviously much-wanted) product, and less stress for me as I didn't have to get pissed watching my download go from around 300k/s down to stuttering at 10-20k/s.

Despite this, we were still the first Australian mirror, and in only a few hours, we've moved something like 400 copies of this demo to the gaming population of Australia, being the first official mirror up.

So whatever, I'm not bitching because I have a personal vendetta against nef or anyone because he was using MY BANDWIDTH. In fact, I wasn't bitching at all - you can usually notice my bitching, because it tends to be about this long with a lot more information in it about why I'm bitching, rather than a simple one line comment in response to nef blowing over how much better he was than everyone else. Yeh, you nef, thanks for starting this slaw.

Now that I've finally finished writing this, my download has just finished, so I'm gonna go check this game out. Well, now I have to go to a party at the pub, so I'll do it when I get back. Pity I didn't download it to myself at home before anything else. Sigh.

It's just that trog made an off-the-cuff comment, monkeu (for some stupid reason) decided to take trog up on it. trog then tries to justify his comment, which I assume was made just for fun, instead of just pointing out he said it in jest.

monkeu's an arse for being a dick (although he makes some valid comments) trog's being an arse for getting offended at some stupid dick (maybe trog had a bad day?)

Still, if I want to download something from the US, I don't give a s*** if someone is downloading the cure for cancer at 2K, I have no way of knowing that.
