There's a great feature article in today's Courier-Mail which scratches the surface of Bill Gate's philanthropy, and discusses his (and others) opinions on how technology can help disadvantaged societys.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has delivered US$22 billion in aid to the Thirld World.

It is damn good to see that the World's Richest Man isn't a Mr Burns like miser and is capable of not only distributing the wealth, but doing things with it to help his fellow man. Almost makes it forgivable every time I have to put up with another screwup in a Microsoft product... almost.
