Australian IT have a post about a new censorship bill in front of the South Australian Government next month.
HARSH internet laws that give police power to prosecute anyone posting content deemed unsuitable for minors are likely to be passed by the South Australian Government next month.

"These laws are intended to catch the content provider, not the internet service provider or the content host.

Melbourne academic Peter Chen, who has written a thesis on internet censorship in Australia, said the SA bill was a little bit of politics aimed at parochial voters and would have no impact on the availability of undesirable content to minors.
As always there is a heated debate on censorship and all sorts of other fun stuff in this related Slashdot post.

Censorship my ass. We already have it, FFS its those lilk MA15+ stickers on the boxes. Its just that stores don't abide by the guidelines and either do parents. Then f***ing hell if their child of 10 gets "addicted" or has a "reaction" to the game with the MA15+ sticker on it. the game developer and the "machine" is the worst in the world. f*** the stickers are there for a reason its just that ppl are too lazy to reinforce them, so its their own fault. There is no need for more censorship we have it. ppl just need to obey it properly like the guidelines say.... stupid parents.. nuff said OOHER

noone gizzas*** about censorship anyway. The whole thing was just a big nervous reaction by goverment bodies after [insert scary event here].

With the possible exception of soldier of fortune, ive never seen a game that would make a minor skilled enough to play it freak out. they see worse s*** on tv anyway.

but thats for games anyway. as for the internet, all the other censorship crap they've got already hasnt done anythin, so i doubt some new laws are gonna rock the world.

More to the point, it's still up to parents wether they let their kids see that s*** or not

Should we tell the violent video games and movies people to stop making stuff too?

Get a f***ing CLUE

Its funny how the people that don't have any clue about things like this are the ones telling us what we can and cant do/see... Whatever happened to freedom of expression... We wont even have that right eventually. Censorship doesnt do anything, it just makes us more determined.
