ok here goes.
updated sound card drivers for a freind had s*** loads of problems doing it so we uninstalled the card through device manager.
reinstalled all the drivers everything was good.
Problem is he now has no sound in CS (cannot hear WAV sounds)but you can go into control panel then into sounds and play the windows WAV files and hear them fine.
he has reinstalled HL and CS a couple of times and still no luck.
This is starting to get me pissed off as he is in sydney and i am in brisbane (he also has not got much of an idea about windows).

If anybody has had this problem or knows how to fix it i would be greatful.
THANKS.
if you have any questions you can icq me 93555454.
BTW card is a CMEDIA PCI THINGY.

Is the mp3 player using DirectSound, or waveOut? Perhaps DirectX needs a re-install if the mp3's are being played on DirectSound (cause I'd assume that HL would use that, too)

I have a sound card problem as well, ive been told that it has to do with the buffer on the card, but in the middle of this year, this clicking sound started to appear, and is getting really anoyying, i can hear it no matter what, games,cds,mp3s and so on, can anyone help me out.

I dunno if it could help but german hace u checked ur speakers?? are they old cause if they are they could have a foam liner sorta thing around the cone and in the many years of humid weather they could have perished or some what lost their qualities
