Damn the time difference! I'd probably get up at 6am to watch them but can't deal with 4.30. I guess this is where it'd be cool to have a PVR TV thing for sport stuff.

Tonight 4:30am Liverpool vs. Chelsea and tomorrow 4:30am Manchester United vs. BarcelonaChelsea vs. Liverpool will be a very tactical snore fest. Man U vs. Barca will be more exciting for sure. Tip Liverpool to slap Chelsea for the 3rd year running. Tip Barca to find some form and go win :) |

Chelsea vs. Liverpool will be a very tactical snore fest. You reckon? Generally when two premier league teams come together it makes for an exciting game ala Liverpool vs. Arsenal in the quarters (well the second leg anyway :P) |

Liverpool will go into a fairly defensive counter attack style with 1 up front no doubt...Chelsea will probably play a more attacking game but get stifled in the midfield. Maybe not. Fingers crossed for a good exciting game :) |

he made two errors, first it was clearable with his foot but he misread it and go out of position so he had to head it. Second, what Zak said.
also, Could have been Reina's ball had he called it early. |

I know exactly what was going through his mind..."if i put this out of play the ref will blow for full time". He wasn't really under pressure or anything I didn't think. He just should have booted the thing instead :( |

United 0 - 0 Barca
Ronaldo missed a penalty and had a decent shout turned down, so did Eto'o for the Catalans. Barca dominated possession but didn't really look like scoring against the well oiled defensive unit. Closest they got was a 20 yard drive from Henry. Off to Old Trafford next week. Have to say United has the edge. But first Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Reds go marching on, and on. |

Was a very nice goal from Scholes. I'm thinking that the reds are going to come out firing against Chelsea just because they have to. Should be a good match whether it is a 0-0 result or not. |

I have been living in London for the past 7 months, the build up to these finals and the end of the League has been great!
Last nights game Man U deserved to win. I wouldn’t have mind seeing Barcelona come out on top though. The only players that really stood out in Barcelona were Messi and Deco. Messi was just running rings through them. Man U were the better team though. Can’t wait for tonight’s match Liverpool v Chelsea! Go Liverpool you good things!! |

If Chelsea play like they did at the Bridge last weekend they I would tip them to beat Pool even if it is at Anfield. Liverpool seem to do better in Europe then domestically though so should be pretty tight game.
Pity seeing the Manc's get through, although Barca have been absolute s***e in La Liga this year and I guess that was reflected at OT today. |

Gerrard didn't really 'go missing' he was just marked out of the game by Makelele. I'd have to give Grant kudos for playing Essien at right back and allowing that to happen though. And at least we got to see goals this time around :)

Q: Why did Chelsea go on the stock exchange?
A: To prove that s*** floats. 4. A man and his son were at the breakfast table when the father spots something in the paper. "Van Gough sold for £8 million", he says shaking his head. "Is he worth it dad?" Impressed that his boy is taking an interest in fine art, the father says, "I suppose so son. Why do you ask?" "Well it's just that Mourinho paid more than that for Andrei Shevchenko - and he's s***". What would you get if Chelsea were relegated ? 40,000 more Man United fans. |

Look.. Being an avid reds supporter is was very hard to take it this morning. And being a reds supporter seeing United and Chelsea in a European cup final really s***s me. Firstly, Chelsea - no fans, no history and no tradition. Very much a trophy free zone of london. You can try to buy trophies.. it may work but you can't gain tradition with money.
As for United, they were lucky to go through with Messi ripping them apart in both games. Barca deserved to not go through. They hadnt scored a goal domestically for 3 games leading up to the first leg with United. Yes the scholes goal was a leaf out of Gerrards book but Scholes and United can thank Zambrotta for gifting him posession with a s*** clearance. I had my plane tickets ready to buy and tickets to the final in Moscow ready if Liverpool went through, spuing!. It's funny listening to 'fans' in Australia talk about football, mainly in Europe. No idea. There are so many United and Chelsea 'fans' here.. why? I guess its because since the premier league's inception in 92 United have dominated it until the present. We would only hear about Manchester United in the news and media here about how great they were because they won everything. Everything? no, they were only winning in England. They have only won 2 European cups!, their first in the 60's and their most recent one in 99 where they somehow scored 2 goals roughly 100 seconds apart in the stoppage time of the 2nd half to beat bayern 2-1. More recently, Chelsea picked up two titles in 05 and 06 thanks to Roman for spending millions on useless players (shevchenko, ballack) And suddenly there were Chelsea supporters everywhere here in Australia... most of them ex-united supporters. When Australia quailified for the world cup back in 05, everyone suddenly became a football fanatic.. and who was winning in england at this stage? Chelsea! i reckon the chelsea 'fan'base grew by at least 30,000 within 48 hours after we did uruguay on penalties. (yeah 48 hours, enough time for them to google 'soccer'.. whoops, football. look up england, or turn on foxsports and lastly work out www.premierleague.com is the official site of the epl) haha. Only in australia or asia would you see someone jump ship as soon as someone else is winning. Sounds like Italian politics. It's also funny when i see people wearing jerseys around, i would always have something to say to people wearing united, chelsea or arsenal jerseys usually referring to a weekend result, upcoming game or history between the clubs and 90% of them would have no clue at what i was giving them s*** about. What if Forest were to eventually be promoted back to the premiership in the coming seasons and starting winning titles.. i bet we'd see Forest fans everywhere. I bet half the people here haven't heard of Forest. They are more the equal 2nd most successful english club in europe with United! They have two european cups - same as united. Even Aston Villa and Leeds are more successful than Chelsea. All i can say is it will take United and Chelsea another 30+ years to achieve what Liverpool has. Actually, make it 60+ years for chelsea. No other English team comes close to Liverpool. As much as it hurts to see those two in the final i will be hoping that chelsea wins, they've won nothing in england and europe and United are catching up to liverpool so f*** united. and f*** everton! mike after this year you'll only have 1 more premiership then united.
I don't follow any specific team, other then maybe Newcastle because that's where my grandfather was born. Everyone over here hates Chelsea for the same reasons you mentioned above, they have no history or tradition or anything, they are trying to buy it! Leeds, heh, there is a good few Leeds tragics here and I'll never forget one of my mates going for them so passionately in the early 90's - now look at them, fighting to get out of league 1 |

Mike, take a chill pill. Your rant will fall on deaf ears here. And irregardless, I'm a Spurs fan, so it means nothing to me ;)
Just a quick edit for your post - Sheva and Ballack were brought in the year after they won the two titles. But yes, I agree - they did pretty much buy themselves the premiership for those two years. |

That might true, but how can Liverpool claim to be champions of Europe when they aren't even the champions of their own league. Only League/CL doubles can say they are the best in Europe that year. The league requires consistently good performances over 9 months, hence why its harder to win. |

I can't support liverpool because they are frustrating to watch and f***ing boring.
On the other hand Man Utd is a sick team to watch. And yes most of their fans are douche bags who also coincidentally support the Chicago Bulls, New York Yankees and New England Patriots etc etc. Spurs are great to watch too. Aresenal play a great game but need a better striker. |

That might true, but how can Liverpool claim to be champions of Europe when they aren't even the champions of their own league.Because they won...How can Greece claim to be the European champions just for winning the European championship. Prior to that I don't believe they had ever won in a competitive international before. By your rational, based on the lead up to the competition, Greece shouldn't be the defending European champions. |

Meh it's a cup competition so true, consistency isn't needed, just need to be playing good football at the time and have the run of luck that your injuries fall outside the playing window. Only have to look at the Uefa Cup to see what happens under those conditions. Bayern have a squad that could challenge for the finals of the CL, and they lose out to Zenit. Still the best way to compare teams amongst Europe and it's 10x better than any other football you are likely to see. Especially considering the EPL and it's top 4 mentality. That's why I love la liga, on any given day any team can beat any other team. See the Getafe vs Bayern games recently.
And I agree with some of the stuff you are saying Mike. I am amazed at the number of people you can stop in the street to try and talk about football to as they are wearing a strip and they have nfi what you are talking about. It's wierd. Not as wierd as the prick that I stopped @ the train station in the Valley to talk to or who I buy my jerseys off ;) But on the otherhand the sport needs more supporters to challenge the likes of NRL and AFL in this country and if it takes people on a bandwagon from the world cup or Chelsea supporters to help that, then so be it. It's still a good thing :) |

Liverpool have history, they are the most decorated english club and the most successful english club at home and in europe, and they still are the masters of european football. Madrid have dropped off, they seem to lose games/ties that really they should be advancing. And AC Milan, they have always been a powerhouse, very hard to stop. By the way things are going in Serie A this season it looks like they wont qualify for UCL and have to cop the uefa cup! good.
18 League titles 7 FA cups 5 European cups 1 UEFA cup etc United have.. 16 league titles 2 European cups 11 or 12 FA cups.. cant remember.. thats the only thing united have over liverpool. Liverpool in europe are unstoppable. No team comes close to their history, they are the 3rd best european team. 1st is Real Madrid with 9. They won the first 5 in a row when it began in the 50's. 2nd is AC Milan with 7 then Liverpool with 5. Bayern and Ajax with 4 each. The other english clubs that have some sort of history are Villa with 1 and Notts Forest with 2, and Leeds for losing a final. Times have changed, if the Heysel disaster didnt happen then Liverpool would have maybe 8 or 9 titles. Wiki Heysel tragedy, i cbf explaining. Briefly - English clubs were banned for 5 years from all european competition, liverpool copped an extra year than the rest. At this stage liverpool were dominating in all competitions. Liverpool havent won since 1990 and have continued to finish in the top 4, this season is no different. Too many drawn games. People can say whatever they want about who is the better team, you just have to look at the history - Liverpool. |

Even if United win the CL, but lose the League i will only say we are the CL winners, not the champions of europe because clearly Chelsea had been the better team over the whole year (if they won the league).

Greece are champions of International European football. There is no 'league'.There was a qualification phase. There was a mini kind of league in the group stages. If a team wins the CL, they deserve to be the champions of Europe. Domestic for is irrelevant in my opinion. |

example for twisted, the dumb scouse bastard.
Year: 2005/2006 CL Winner: Liverpool League Winner: Chelsea Liverpool claims to the best team out of all the teams in Europe. BUT, Chelsea is the best team out of the 40 in the EPL. Therefore, Liverpool can't be the best in Europe if there is at least one team better than them in England ('Pool finished 3rd that year behind united too) Also, CL requires 8 ties to win the trophy. League requires 38 games to win the trophy - longer period, more chances to stuff up, greater consistency required. |

Champions League is the big one mate. If you win that your team is the dog's bollocks end of story.

The league requires consistently good performances over 9 months, hence why its harder to win.Sure it may be longer, but why ignore the part where it's barely a 4 horse race and that the majority of the games are a cakewalk. I can't believe I'm actually arguing this. |

example for twisted, the dumb scouse bastard.Na, has nothing to do with who you support. Who ever wins the CL, is the king of Europe. End of story. If Chelsea beat Man U in the CL final and Man U win the EPL, Chelsea are still the champs. Nothing can take that away. |
