Topic: Miscarriage as an art?

Aliza Shvarts, a Yale art major, has done something different for her senior art project this year.

The "artist" has documented herself throughout a 9 month process where she artificially inseminated herself and then periodically took abortifacient drugs in order to induce miscarriages.

The exhibit, which will begin next Tuesday, will include video recordings of the forced miscarriages.

How about we lock her in a room for a year and pump small, regular amounts of nerve gas in until she dies ... filming the whole thing.

That's art right?

Yeah the second article there has statements from the university saying that's it didn't really happen, that it's all part of the art... they could just be saying that though.

Several hours after the initial story broke and a firestorm of press coverage brought down the Yale Daily News website, Yale College issued a press release[6] affirming that the miscarriages and exhibit were performance art. In the press release, the university spokesperson revealed that rather than the alleged cube of miscarried remains, the performance had consisted in the invention of the story of their creation. "Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art," it read. "Her art project includes visual representations, a press release and other narrative materials. She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body."[6][7]

Shvarts declared that the goal of the project was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body

I think it instead sparks conversation as to what passes as 'art' these days and why they get funding for this useless s***.

so wait... a student elaborately created a story (lied) and called it 'performance art' and specifically did it on a gross/immoral topic to enhance the percieved value of the said 'performance art'.

riiiight.
what a weirdo!

what a dumb bitch, you can't spew out obscene s*** and call it art. Then insert some nonsensical bulls*** about the female body, like society has an issue with it, and that it was your intention to highlight said issue.

people reacted cause it was disgusting and vile waste of life /and, or/ stem cells - depending on which way you swing, People were more interested to see how f***ed up she was. It has nothing to do with females or vaginas. dumb bitch.

yeah abortions as an artform has to be done tastefully

it's easy to be shocking but hard to produce real art. but she did get free publicity and that's a skill in itself, so props to that

And if no one had an issue, she would have gone on about how society doesnt care anymore.
