Its not often that I find an application I find so handy I want to share it with everyone however Par N Rar is my new favorite (for this week)

Iv only just found it so forgive me if its been around forever, however I digress.

Basicly it will watch a directory of your choice and its sub directory's and check the SFV file and then extract whatever is placed in it automatically.

For instance, if I have a Completed folder for all my linux ISO's I download, so I make it watch that folder. When the download is done, it gets verified that its not corrupt, and then extracted to another folder (for me its called extracted, clever I know) and then Im ready to stream my linux iso to the 360.

If your looking for more automation for your home media etc, check it out

linux iso is code for soemthing else

so basically a program that uncompresses rar files as soon as they are downloaded? but only works if the supplier has provided a sfv/md5/par check file. that could be convenient or f***ing annoying.. I dunno...

No, if there is no SFV file it just extracts from what I have found :)

Oh, I see now.

Alt.Binz has this functionality built in. You can set it up so that it'll extract your Linux iso once the download is complete. I think there are other clients that do it too.

I use HashTab for quick manual verification of single files (given an MD5 hash).

why unrar? any good media program will play things straight from the .rars, plus you can reseed on linuxscene torrent sites.

Because I use a 360 to stream , same with PCs, the only one I have found that does it is a Xbox 1 modded. Plus I extract to a seperate folder so I can seed for a while longer.

Show me a program that'll stream HD movies to a 360 or PS3 from inside a .rar file.

From Wikipedia's article on Linux ISOs:
A CD software release can contain up to 737 megabytes of data, which presented challenges when sending over the Internet, particularly in the late 1990s when broadband was unavailable to most home consumers. These challenges apply to an even greater extent for a single-layer DVD release, which can contain up to 4.7 GB of data.

The Linux ISO scene made it standard practice to split releases up into many separate pieces, called disks, using several file compression formats: (historical TAR, LZH, ACE, UHA, ARJ), ZIP and most commonly RAR. The original purpose of these "disks" was so that each .rar file could fit on a single 1.44 MB 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. With the growing size of games, this is no longer feasible, as hundreds of disks would need to be used. Most groups will now release a title with disks sized 15,000,000 bytes (14,3 megabytes) or 50,000,000 bytes (47,7 megabytes) in bigger release.

[snip]

* If there is a problem during the file transfer and data was corrupted, it is only necessary to resend the few corrupted RAR files instead of resending the entire large file.

Obviously RARs are useless in a BT environment as it does its own error detection and redownloads. But the thing is, the releases aren't made for torrent distribution.

I have never downloaded a HD movie in RARs, even sites specialising in HD don't rar them. Once you've broken 8.5GB like with a Blu-Ray or HDDVD full rip then I don't think the 50MB linux iso scene rules apply.
