Hi there,
If you have read the 'Need Housemates' thread you will know z0r and I are about to relocate. As a result our current cable net plan with Optus will be cancelled and re-established at our new address. As we are planning on setting up a sharehouse arrangement, we were hoping to upgrade our internet plan. We currently have Optus 20GB on peak and 40GB off peak, at 10mbps - for $72.15 per month. We use all of this every month, and often run the risk of being capped (or get capped :( ). So obviously we will need something more if we are sharing with another one or two people. Ive been on 'The Broadband Guide' and similar, havent had much luck in finding anything comparable - or anything with as much or more data usage. If anyone has some recommendations it would be very much appreciated! Thanks for your help, GP. |

150gb is 40/110 but the 110 is off-peaked at 3am - 9am which is the time you SLEEP. so rly unless u download s*** between 3am and 9am then its not very useful.
At least Optus have 12-12 back to back peak times. its actually useful then. |

I have IInet ADSL 10/20 gig for 70 a month..including 30 dollar line rental.
I could have got 20/40 for 80 a month? which isn't too bad incl line rental |

Well, those of us clever enough to use the schedulers in our download clients manage to make use of the time just fine. I'm with TPG, and I'm happy with every aspect of their service, except for their after-hours customer service. Luckily, I pretty much never have to call them. 150GB for $70 per month is pretty f***ing sweet. |

and yeah, even the 150gb cap includes more than 10gb of peak - so you'd still be better off

Thinking of swapping to TPG, only thing stopping me is the iinet gaming profile somehow gives me 10-20ping on TF2 servers in melbourne.
Whats TPG like for gaming? I've heard some stories about unstable ping with added choke and loss. |

Im currently with Internode, while I pay a premium for it, I never have outages, I never have to ring support and my net is always fast and never congested.
That said, I almost made the move to iinet for their naked plans, the only thing holding me back is the fact they count uploads :( |

x2 x3 The latency and game-server quality is just top notch too. But yes, the main advantage is lack of problems. |

other than that it's sweet as |

Considering internode are upgrading their usenet to link with giganews (200 days retention!) i'm staying with them for another few years at least...probably forever really.
I can't stand onpeak/offpeak....just let me use all my quota whenever the hell i want!:) http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-plan.cfm for the OP if he hasn't already been there |

im all for peak/offpeak
its an awesome idea so much easier to just queue up your dls with utorrent when im using pc during peak hours, no overhead, then when im sleeping, putty is hoovering the internet to my machine for use the next day! hooray; |

im all for peak/offpeak That's the dumbest thing I've heard all week. How can it be 'easier' to queue something up than to just straight download it right there and right then with no scheduling overhead? Now on the other hand if having offpeak time means more quota, then that's an entirely different issue. But just saying that it's easier is just silly. |

it means i can continue to surf/game with all my bandwidth
this worked particularly well when i had decimate living at my place and he was always gaming when i dl something, i dont always need it IMMEDIATELY obviously the extra quota is awesome when im torrenting, im almost maxing up my uploads, which farx pretty much all internets traffic last edited by Spook at 11:37:55 28/Mar/08 |

from my experience, that is true parabol. When im on the phone with no PCs on, nothing registers in the peak/off peak but i churn through about 30 meg an hour on the freezone. Why so much? I love my g.711 a-law 'bandwidth hungry' codecs.
