Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a Logitech G9 mouse, I'm wondering if anyone has one and what they think of them.

Cheers,

Ben.

I'm fairly happy with mine, the mouse wheel hasn't f***ed up yet like on my g5 (scroll down and then it tries to scroll up, makes it bad for binding stuff to mwheelup/down in games).

Another plus is that it has 2 thumb buttons which are fairly easy to press.

My only problem with them is that Logitech said that different grips would be available for them (I find the mouse kind of small) and there aren't any as yet... but they still print on the boxes saying there will be.

My reply from this post

I have a G9 & I highly recommend it, oh & you can get it $30 cheaper than anywhere else at Umart.

Although the shape of it looks weird, it works. The only adjusting you have to do is get use to the 2 thumb buttons in a higher position (took me 1 day for that), & due to the 3200dpi, you might have to lower the sensitivity command in your games.

But if your like me & bind your sens + & - to keyboard shortcuts, they are now placed conveniently under mouse1 so you can actually press them in the heat of FPS gameplay, the tilt wheel is solid, Mouse buttons are huge so they just seem easier to press. You can make it heavy as a brick or light as a feather with adjustable weights.

I went from Logitech Mouseman +, To Microsoft Intellimouse V3, to Logitech MX518, to Logitech G9

The mouse is very nice, best I have ever used.
Switch the scroll wheel to smooth scrolling and spin the wheel, it will continue rotating for ages, showing that the build quality is superb.

If you change the weight of the mouse make sure to seat the weights flush with the weight rack or it may jam when you try to pop it back out. Very frustrating and difficult to remove if that happens.

Also "Setpoint" the software used with the mouse often refuses to quit when I shutdown the PC, which means I often discover the PC is still running hours later with an "End Process Setpoint" dialog box waiting for me to answer.

Thanks for all your help guys, I just bought one today and from what i've experienced so far it's a pretty nice package. I just hope that the surface of it doesn't go gummy like my mouseman dual optical did.

Cheers.

I couldn't stand the shape, it felt like I was holding a roll of duct tape. I wouldn't go back to a corded mouse either after the G7.

I think they look f***ing ugly as well.

As annoying as it is to have to change batteries, it really isn't that bad. It takes less than 5 seconds to swap it over. It is a much better idea than having to charge on a dock cause theres no downtime unless you don't click the battery in properly and you've got nothing to blame other than your own human crapness there.

Even after running mine into the ground over the 2.5 years I have had it the batteries still hold 3-4 hours charge in a constantly moving gaming scenario.

g5 still trucking along strong here. only thing I wish it had was another thumb button, but the side scrolls bound to keys make up for it

mine last for about 2 days with constant use. however, ive only had it for a little bit over a year. i dont use them until they are dead though. i swap batteries once the battery in the charger is fully charged.

Notebook mice ftw. I only had to change my batteries recently since buying the mouse in August:

Why do they go through the batteries so quick?

I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop (the keyboard/mouse combo - MX3000 maybe? - I Can't remember) and the mouse batteries (2xAA) last at least 3 months.

I only had to change the keyboard batteries after 18 months.

Because they use rechargeable lithium ion batteries I think. They don't have as long a battery life but they can be recharged quickly and without having to fully flatten them.

The logitech dock charging mice are terrible which is why I now have a G9. Great mouse and I think it actually looks and feels better then a G5/G7.

Anyone here still use the old ball mice?

I recently started hacking away on Quake, and the laser mouse is giving me the s***s because when I roll and lift the mouse ever so slightly on a flick turn, the laser tracking goes mental because it's not square against the surface - but in same circumstances on the ball mouse, it's all analog and predictable.

maybe it's just me ?

It just doesn't photograph well.

Actually I've just never liked the look of the G5/7 mice.

I was quite skeptical when I first saw the G9, and was intent on not buying it just because it looked like s***.

Though a friend bought it and gave me a try. Having already been using the MX500, I had a clear idea of what the G7/G5 was going to feel like. While the mouse is no better then the G7/G5 it isn't worse, just differant.
If you have big hands or tend to aim your mouse with your wrist, stick to the G7/G5. Otherwise if you have smaller hands or aim your mouse with your fingers, try out the G9, you might be surprised.

I bought the G9

I have a G9 and I love the feel of it and the optional cover choices. Buttons are nice and responsive (perhaps too responsive in some instances, responding to light touch - but i'll get used to it).

Personally I haven't liked the setpoint software so far, though probably because I'm too retarded to use it effectively.

Basically all I've wanted to do is to setup my own profile and make that run always but it seems to want to run it's 'default' profile for anything but applications you assign to it. Kind of frustrating.
