its just been pulled in Vic until after someones trial

underbelly on hold in vic

trying to find the norty promo which has all the goodbits, but cant;

family groups are in uproar about the show, so thats a fair indicator that it will be worth watching

If they do this well, it could be a winner! What they've done here is a bloody good way to get free advertising & create hype. I'm hangin out for this now!

Actually sounds like a decent idea for a series for an aussie drama for a change. But watching it would mean having to find the antennae cable for my tv, sounds like a lot of effort.

On the drive to work today I was flicking Radio stations to try find some actual music.
Nova, TripleM, TripleJ, B105, River 94.9 and even 97.3 (Family FM... I really didn't want to listen to Underbelly talk) all had ad/people/discussion about Underbelly.

It's been like this for the past few days too. Overhype much?

lolz

yer, that was pretty disappointing

john howard stood out like dogs balls as not looking like he should have been cast as part of the carlton gang

actually most of the old guys in the carlton gang didnt look right

the younger guys were ok though

im interested in the story, so ill probably watch it again, but overall, felt tacky, looked tacky, sounded tacky

fail

ps hyundai guy was better in the ads then as the copper :(

They need to work on subtlety to keep it real, they're tryin to make too much of an impact too early and for me has spoiled it.

I'll test the waters again next week i think, just to sus it.

Are you thinking or Martin Sacks or Kevin Harrington as John Howard is still over saving the hospital on All Saints :p. I have heard a lot say that Harrinton (Neighbours/The Dish) looks weird as a gangster but he is a dead ringer of the real Lewis Moran. Most of the cast actually do resemble the people they are playing, especially Carl Williams (singing Casino man). These guys aren't cast as caricatures of gangsters so are naturally going to look like normal people with a f***ed up way of life. Gangitano was the only one who acted and dressed like he thought he was a Hollywood gangster.

since hes gone. not gonna watch it

He is gone in the first 2 episodes because his death starts the whole "10 year war". The show is based on facts, however looseley, so there aren't any suprises on who dies unless you don't know the story.

Didn't mind it, will watch again. Felt a bit like they were trying a bit hard with the "LOOK TITS AND VIOLENCE ON TV ZOMG" bit. I hope they are just trying to get some exposure & hook people and it tones down a bit as it goes long.

I would have liked to see more of the Black Prince but if its trying to be based on based on historical fact you can't really go and change what happened.

they are trying to keep it factually accurate. if you didn't see him dying early you probally were supprised when the titanic sunk at the end of that movie.

yeah why are people complaining that they don't look like gangsters from sopranos and that they killed someone off

this was based on something that actually happened hence they look like normal people and s***... people got killed, just because it wasn't when you wanted them to be killed off

oh he died? i turned it off :P

Might give it another crack next week, but i feel it should still have a large factor of subtlety to keep it real. All this blatent violence and sterio typing (amongst ordinary acting) really turned my nose up at it. Subtlety is the key!

lol... look like "normal people" or pretty much the same people who dominate Australian TV... Not having a go at Paveway or what anyone else here has said, but it would be awesome for a show that attempts to push Aussie drama a little bit further also gives a start to more new actors. Sure it's possible they auditioned hundreds of people for the parts and wound up with the familiar faces being the best, but I highly doubt it. I reckon it would have been a lot better if there were more no name actors.

I am saying this having only seen the publicity for it in TV Scene. I am yet to see the show.

QFT, I never had the thoughts of listening to qgl opinions either, but it did annoy me that people who clearly are not actors feel they have the right to criticise the acting? Doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, this show gets my 2 thumbs up approval. Had a great Australian movie touch which I love.

The guy that plays Carl Lewis was a Churchie boy!!

He finished school in 1998 and my sister was friends with him. I am impressed with his style of acting in the show.

The storyline sometimes has gaps however I guess trying to cram in all the crime of the last 8 years or so must be hard.

Carls girlfriend, bitchtits has the whole kath and kim style voice going on.
The worst actor out of the lot would have to be the male detective - not sure of his name.

So far the show is going well.

Can anyone shed any light on this though ----- if jason moran was convicted of the bashings in the night club for 2 years.. when does he serve it? Has the sentence started now or did they jump ahead two years? i am confused..

They jumped some time in last night's episode. The date was displayed when the Moran brothers met Carl Williams in the park towards the end.

Edit: The date was October 1998 if I recall correctly.

Pretty average show, pat on the back to channel 9 for at least trying to make a good drama but. I get really s***ted off at all the background music to hide the bad acting. I love shows like sopranos and the shield where they have no dramatic music at all.

No, 10-13 are unfinished episodes - they form the collection of episodes that ch9 cited as being "unfinished" when ordered to hand over to the courts for analysis.

You won't see completed versions for a while...if they even circulate before it airs. I'm wagering that due to the leaks that ch9 has suffered at the hands of their staff (and the production company that made it), any further DVD screeners for press just simply won't eventuate.

Makes sense. The show needs no further promotion anymore. ;)

i've seen 11-13, they are missing sounds: such as when ppl are talking on a phone to someone, u hear one person, but not the edited in sound of the other person on the end of the line. Some music is also missing, sound effects and some voice overs are subtitles. 11 was the worst out of the 3 with no music, but 12 and 13 aren't 2 bad.

pretty ironic how Carl is apparently making money off the sale of the bootleg dvds in vic :P
