Raises questions about if it actually was a suicide or if it was an accidental death.

The call comes in the wake of a spate of reports from a national hotline of Stilnox users crashing cars, having sex, fighting and binge-eating from the fridge while apparently asleep.

Stilnox packs now also carry extra warnings of possible side-effects "including rage reactions, worsened insomnia, confusion, agitation, hallucinations and other forms of unwanted behaviour", the TGA said.

I've heard some pretty bad things about stilnox and i've seen some people who abuse them far too recklessly imo, I think it would be a good thing if they were more heavily regulated.

I know someone who works night shift, and gets them all the time. He said he has driven down the road to the shops, and "woken up" at the shops and not remembered how he got there! f***in scarey!

I've had several packs of Stilnox over the last few years. No problems.

It basically lets me sleep within 30 minutes, then I wake up 6.5 hours later as designed and expected. Just a bit drowsy the next day, but about 4x less drowsiness than regular over-the-counter sleeping tablets. If you stay up after taking it, you won't remember too much of your time awake the next day, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway.

I'm surprised there are so many negative reports about it, though I seem to find that most of them are from people who haven't tried it themselves or are going by what they read or what their friends did (who might be mixing or have psychological problems). None of my friends who have had it have had any of these sleep-walking side-effects either. Not to say there are none (I'm certain there would be people who react negatively to it, just like any other drug/medicine), but I think they've been grossly exaggerated and the media has just grasped at it to sensationalise something.

I've had partial insomnia for over 2 years now and my doctor prescribed stilnox for me. I was only on it for about 2 weeks but I will never touch that stuff again. Had one bad experience/hallucination from it and that was enough to put me off taking it (that, and a week after I was prescribed it all the news outbreaks came about) as well as hallucinations and sleep walking it made me feel incredibly sick and dizzy and i couldn't drive for hours after waking coz i was still swaying and all over the place. When my doctor put me on it he told me to come back in a few weeks and that he'd most likely have to put me on anti-depressants to counter-act any addiction to the stilnox. the thought of having to take anti-depressants was also very off-putting

Also, most of my cousins are doctors or nurses and all strongly recommended avoiding it.
