jmr call your local radiology place
i had to get a CT scan one day, and i just called around (called Qld Radiology and South Coast Xray), I got 2 different quotes. CT scan was about $450 and after medicare i was out of pocket like $200. just ring them, they can tell you over the phone |

A bone scan for me was about $450, so I'm guessing it's about the same. Out of pocket is 25%.

I've had three MRIs in the last year and a bit.
I didn't have any out of pockets for any of them, and I don't have a health care card either? Why are you guys getting charged? |

My wife gets 2 - 3 MRI's on her head sometimes a year and she hasn't paid for one ever since I've known her. Doctor gives her a referral and she hands over Medicare card when she goes.

Maybe it depends on circumstances?
If I had to fork out 400 bucks every time a neurologist checked my grey matter I wouldn't see too many neuros :p |

It might depend if you're over the medicare threshold for the year, and also if u have a health care card.

would it depend on what kind of health insurance you've got?

I've had 3 MRI scans (two shoulder, one hamstring) over the last year or so. Had to drive all the way to Caboolture Hospital (Southern X-Ray i think?) to get bulk billing as local places were either $400 out of pocket or booked out for a good month or two, which is not fun with a badly torn hamstring.

I've had three MRIs in the last year and a bit. If it's done in a private hospital, 75% is covered. If it's done in a public hospital, there's no out-of-pocket. |

Mine were done in a private hospital, but ordered by the local public one.
Cairns doesn't have a publicly-owned MRI machine so I think that counts as a public procedure in terms of being billed? |
