I wanted to see this movie because the preview looked a bit edgier for a "teen drama" and it has both Michael Cera and Jason Bateman starring in it. Although I was aware the aforementioned Arrested Development stars were not in one single scene together, I love their work and think they are very clever actors.

I'm gonna write the synopsis with no spoilers, but no doubt the thread will contain spoilers. Having said that, there was nothing in the movie that you would really be surprised about.

Juno (Ellen Page who starred as "Kitty" in the lastest X-Men installment) falls pregnant at the age of 16 at high school and decides to have the baby and adopt it out. She has to deal with telling her dad and step mum (played by JK Simmons and Allison Janney who had the most comedy input) and just generally being a pregnant teenager. Juno finds a couple to adopt the unborn baby, and although the characters played by Bateman and Jennifer Garner are a little off, Juno is happy with her decision. But of course a couple of things don't go quite as planned, and thrown into the mix is Juno's denial of her love of the baby's father, "Bleeker" (played by Cera) who clearly wants to be with Juno.

My biggest problem with the film was the dialogue: Juno is a 16 year old girl, but she talks like a 40 year old feminist who has been doing stand up comedy, the sarcastic style, for years. Every now and then there'd be an "in" word thrown in, like, "I'm pregnant for shiz," and quite often it seemed a little awkward and unnatural.

I thought Michael Cera had pigeon holed himself into one role for the rest of his life, but although he played a major character in the film he really only had a few lines. His character was vastly removed from what we saw in AD or Superbad, which is good to see.

There were quite a few laughs, but nothing really huge. Often I found myself to be the only one laughing at a lot of stuff - seriously, when people go to a movie as couples they don't laugh at anything, and Friday night is clearly couples' night.

Worth seeing? Yes. At the cinema? No. Wait for the DVD to'rent.

I thought some of the dialogue was awesome and really funny, but as if 16 year olds talk like that.

I liked it and thought it was very good. Lots of laughs for a drama/the subject matter.

I reckon it was an awesome movie but I do agree with the chicks dialogue. Some parts seemed like it was something an older person would come up with. Also thought Jason Bateman and J.K Simmons were great in it as well. Oh, and one more thing, the music was really f***ing cool as well. Definitely suited the style of the movie.

Just watched her (Ellen Page) in hard candy about a week or so ago. She's a really good actor for her age. Seems younger than she is though. In that movie she is supposed to play a 14 year old but her dialogue is a lot more mature than that. In most of her movies she always has dialogue that seems beyond the age of her character. Looking forward to seeing Juno, but will probably wait for DVD

I thought in Hard Candy she was actually older than you're initially led to believe... that's what I got from it anyway.

And yeh, I should have mentioned the music which played a big part in the movie. It was fkn awesome.

Ah, sorry I meant she looks younger than she is. I was interested in seeing how old she was when she played Hard Candy because I thought she wouldn't have been much older then her 14 yr old character because she didn't look to be a fully developed woman. Turns out she was 18 at the time it was filmed

I wanted to check this out too. Would it be worth the $7 to see it at South Bank?

$7 max... unless you have something else you're thinking about seeing - see that instead.

yeah saw this at the Southbank last nite. Agree with what most ppl have already said.

I thought it was pretty good, very 'indie' style of movie. Definately woth the $8 I paid to see it. Prolly not worth paying the $15 Birch Carrol & Coyle sodomy fee.

I thought it was typical arthouse boring schlock. Juno is channeling the Garafolo something fierce; I agree with BH, not really appropriate for a 16yo.

Yeah,

I was expecting more from the previews, but it was still a good film. Not great - but a whole lot better than most teen aimed s*** and still worth a look-see.

Cringed through some of the dialogue but it was ok for the most part.

Music was great, loved the last scene where they were singing. Cute song.
