I used www.ozmodchips.com

They have installers in Brisbane, when I got mine done I just posted it to Melb with insurance.

Worked no problem since I had it done.

This might be one to keep an eye on as well. Be interesting to see what comes of it.

yer, im wiikeys brisbanes biggest fan

i directed a heap of mates to a dude in acacia ridge whos been wiikeying us all up

www.speeddemons.com.au

probably had 8 done now, and only one failure (after the 1.9g update)

if you get a more expensive chip they are pretty much fool proof;

$100 for an old skool wii, bit more for the newer unchippable wiis

nintendo were the ones that said they were unchippable, they can be done, it just costs more, hence i said it costs more

wiikey is no good for new ones ... d2ckey now

So if I read stuff correctly, the D2Ckey will still let me use the Wii shop/online games etc?

Like I said in another thread, my brother bought his through ozmodchips online, who sent the chip to Brisbane Modchips as they were the closest installers in Brisbane. You can in fact just skip ozmodchips altogether and buy from the installer directly when getting it installed, keeping everything on one bill and preventing delays:

http://www.brisbanemodchips.com.au/

From their website, this is an indication of cost (chip+install) based on serial number (look at back/bottom of Wii console):
Nintendo Wii (Genuine Wii Key) Mod Chip - $100
Installed to all models with serial # starting with LAH 1015xxxx or under

» Nintendo Wii (Genuine Wii Key) Mod Chip - $130
Installed to all models with serial # between LAH 1016xxxx & 10215xxx

» Nintendo Wii (Genuine D2CKey) Mod Chip - $195
Installed to all models with serial # starting with LAH 10216xxx or higher

D2CKey is the chip to go for (if you dont mind paying for it)

as i mentioned earlier, some wiikeys have been going belly up since 1.9 update for SMG (we've had 1 of the 8 wiis ive had done so far)

wii doesnt brick, just wont play burnt media

Ive got an original Wii with a wiikey, havent updated since I got it becuase there has been no need.

If the update is only for Super mario galaxy and the update can possible break your chip wouldnt you just buy the game ? Thats what I did, Super mario Deserves some respect anyway, I didnt download it even though I could have.

So there's minimal to no danger of bricked Wiis if a s/w update comes out for it? I'm somewhat cautious as it's taken me since launch to finally get one & don't want to wreck it ;)

If you have an early model wii, then get a current wiikey and just make sure you do all firmware updates before trying to run an nstc games, otherwise you can brick the wii with an incorrect firmware.

Thats the only thing that has happened with chips. Apart from them just not working with some "backed up" games.

nah, the 1.9 update is causing some wiikeys to fail all together (pal software on pals), wii still works, just not with burnt media;

playing ntsc games on a pal wiikey system is also risky (maybe its ok with other chips)

pft why don't you buy the games? it's not like there's a massive wii catalogue worth playing anyhow.

Speaking of modding, anyone know any good places in brisbane for doing the dvd firmware upgrade for an xbox 360?

From what I have read the only problem with getting your wii chipped is that some games install updates (like Super Mario Galaxy), but it asks you first before doing anything. This update screws up your Wii. However, there is a way to get around the problem. But going any further is entering warez land.

I was thinking of getting one so I can play international games.

It only bricks your Wii if you run the update on a game from a different, non-PAL, region. Naturally, it bricks your Wii because you've updated its firmware with a file on a disc it shouldn't be able to read.

Cos theres games from overseas I want to play that don't even come out here or come out here months later? Thats the only reason I'd do it, I don't really care about warez, too much effort, but I would import some games like Trauma Center if I modded my Wii and it would be nice to play Smash Brothers now instead of in six months time.

yeah true khel, I imported my gamecube cos i was sick of the delays, but nowadays I don't mind so much as nintendo doesn't really have a deep online experience and there are going to be less and less games on the Wii that I'm interested in after Smash and Mario Kart. I blame Wii Fit!

The one failure that Spook was talking about was due to a wire in the D2b cutlegs touching another next to it which was easy fixed by moving the wire.

With all the installs I have not seen any 1.9 firmware causing any problems. It has a lot to do with the install and the media being used.
Best media imation dvd-r.

I'm glad everyone is happy with my wiikey & D2c installs.

cheers,
Ash

It's simple really. Don't play 0-day releases until the gbatemp compatibility page says they are safe for your region/rom level.

Some fools tell you to burn at 4x and it'll fix problems. I burn my Taiyo Yuden 16x +R at 16x and have never had a single trouble. Just don't use cheaps*** media.

I want to mod my Wii to play imports, namely Smash Bros. Brawl when it comes out in the States. Anyone here played import games on their modded Wii? Does it only work for certain titles?

I can't look it up on my phone, but there's a page on gbatemp that lists wii compatibility. it has every single jap and US release listed and states if it works on pal wii or not and what needs to be done in the cases where you need to upgrade your wii first.

it is called wii compatability list, google will be your friend.

Hi to all,

Just letting everyone know I have the latest wasabi chip for the new wii D2c2 & D2E chipset. They also do the older chipsets. The benefits of this new chip is that it is DVD upgradeable and the code is stable compared to the D2 pro for the newer wii chipset.

You can checkout the new web shop @ www.speeddemons.com.au/shoppingcart .
Thanks again to all happy customers from Ausgamers.

cheers,
Ash

Is there an army of modchip companies googling for modchip threads to advertise in?
