just watched shoot em up last night, f***ing brillant movie!
id have to say my personal favourites for the year though in no particular order would be

mr brooks.
the man from earth
children of men

i was tempted to put die hard 4 in that list, but the fact they censored it disapointed me enough to exclude it.

Nothing for me was that memorable.

But what stood out for me was how incredibly s*** the Simpsons Movie turned out. Three minutes of oldschool Simpsons gives more laughs than that entire film...

Die Hard 4, 300, Transformers & AvP2 stand out for me.. mostly because they were all no-questions asked, kickass action films.

simpsons also stood out as a shining example of why the show needs to be cancelled.

Die Hard 4 was, I hate to say it, a massive disappointment. It was such a departure from the hardcoreness of the first movie; it was so sanitised and family friendly - so much so that I'm half-expecting a special "directors cut" edition with all the swearing back in there just so they can sell more DVDs.

The DVD says on the front that it is uncut and stuff.

I think I was most impressed by 300. I was pretty pleased with Die Hard 4, it was a straight up action film just like the previous ones. I'm looking forward to seeing I am Legend, post-apocalyptic films being my favorite genre.

Check this out Rev

Jack Black and Michel Gondry ftw
http://www.wired.com/entertainment/hollywood/magazine/16-01/ff_gondry?currentPage=1

Hmm I dont have broadband so I'm unable to 'watch' all these wonderful movies that havent been released yet ;)

Yeah but passable films this yr in no particular order include:

1. No Country for Old Men
2. Apocalypto
3. Death at a Funeral
4. Letter from Iwo Jima
5. 300 j0r!
6. Black Book
7. After the Wedding
8. Hott Fuzz yer
9. Pan's Labyrinth
10. Superbad

The rest were meh!

Although special (I mean 'special' in a crap way) mention must be given to Transformers and History Boys and PoTC3.

I thought History Boys was about some pommy dudes trying to get into University during the 80's, instead it's a movie about dung-punchers and pedophile teachers. Should be called 'Poofter boys' or 'Sore-Bum Mountain'.

Ahh Good ole Michael Bay. Well he got $14.50 out of me ... the c***. Transformers is like eating 10 Big Macs all at once. Sure, it tastes good while your eating it but you'll throw up later. I mean to say it had great CGI and honestly props to the noname nerds tirelessly rendering autobots blowing up s***, they deserve an Oscar they really do. But everthing else excluding Megan Fox's ass was s***e.

Onto Pirates of the Carribean 'We needed to make this Sequel so we could end this s***'. I mean I sat through nearly 3 hrs of this thing and I still don;t know what the f*** happened? Except that Keith Richards stumbled into a scene for 5 mins.

lol end ranty rant

Superbad
Darjeeling Limited
Knocked Up
Deathproof (Has Planet Terror already been out??)

(On closer inspection The Departed, The Prestige and Little Miss Sunshine are from 2006)

Bourne Ultimatum was good and The Fountain was definitely different.

Transformers was average, Die Hard 4 was too (1 and 3 remain awesome), 300 had moments of class.

I didn't even stoop to the level of AvP 1 so there was no chance I was gonna touch AvP 2

And Death At A Funeral was by far the most overated movie of the year.

Except for the Simpsons movie which I also didn't touch. Previews alone were painful.

Doing this list and googling what movies have come out this year make me realise how fkn quickly the year has gone. Some of these I would swear have been out for longer than a year.

Pan's Labrynth (probably movie of the year IMO)

Superbad

28 Weeks Later

AVPR

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix

Sunshine

300

Smokin' Aces

Disappointments:

Black Sheep

Spiderman 3

Die Hard 4

I don't really know where to put Transformers... I quite enjoyed it in the cinema, but only because it was massive robots smashing s*** up, not because it was a good movie.

I really regret not seeing 30 Days of Night in the cinema:( That's the one movie I would have loved to have seen that I didn't this year.

Can we include the futurama movie, seeing as it hasnt been released here and is a straight to DVD movie?

Personally I thought it was better than the simpsons movie (which wasnt bad but not spectacular) and the best movie I have seen all year.

And just to clarify, I didnt download, bought it from amazon.

nah, futurama moofie started off awesome (ie funny), then got bogged down in non funnys and trying to be clever

simpsons moofie was better;

thats what I liked about the movie, that it actually had a good plot, wasnt just sight gags all the way through. Alot of futurama episodes are like that aswell, so its not realy different from the eps.

Best simile of the year...

As far as movies go.

300 - Original and a just a straight visual feast. Nothing else comes close except maybe Sin City for stylised visuals.
Bourne Ultimatum (was that this year?) - I just like the Bourne movies. I still think the original is the best. Less handycam shenanigans.
Hot Fuzz - These guys are f***ing hilarious!
Transformers - It has been a very long time since I've gone to a movie and went "Woah.." out loud. Return of the Jedi, The Matrix, the battle scene at the beginning of Ep III. They are the ones that come to mind prior to a helicopter transforming and ownzing bitchz0rs... Still, it was an action flick with bitching visuals and that's about it. It'll get trumped in 2008.

It might have something to do with the fact it sucked. But for me the worst movie I have seen and possible one of the worse movies of all time is smokin aces. 300 was good but not worth buying. I watched spiderman 3 on a plane and it was the first time I have slept on a plane, what a boring piece of crap that was. I am legend, I have not seen it but Will Smith is in it so utter crap is guaranteed.
