Wow I thought I was the only person in Australia who follows the NBA. Highlights have been awesome so far, & finally after 8 years the Hawks are playing well again.

It's still early days but the big 3 in Boston have been (almost) unstoppable so far. I expect they'll have a better winning % than Dallas did last year and there's no way I can see KG choking like Dirk did in the playoffs.
Still waiting for Kobe (should've been MVP last two seasons IMO) to rattle off a few 50+ games though with Bynum finally coming good and the bench firing like mad he might not have to. |

Boston have barely played any good teams yet though, they have had by far the easiest schedule ever, the only good team they have played so far is the magic...and they lost.
Doubt they can match the 4 powers of the west (suns, spurs, mavs, jazz) at full strength in 7 games. |

^^ Loved David Robinson, probably only cause he made weird facial expressions when he shot. Spose he was pretty good too. Loved shaun kemp and the sonics back in the day, dunno why, but he was a madc***

I'm trying to catch a game or two per week now and indeed its good stuff again. Competition is tight and there is real talent appearing in the league.
Spurs are a great team but dog boring to watch unfortunately. Run n gun suns all the way baby. Does any one play? I play monday nights on the coast div2 at carrara. |

antisane you have got to be kidding kobe in no way deserved the MVP at all in the last 3 seasons. Should have been a Nash 3peat last season, except they had to give it to Dirk and then he choked so hard in the playoffs. As someone already said the celtics haven't really had a challenging start to the season but they are a definite contender.
I'm still waiting for the rockets to put it all together and have both tmac and yao injury free for an entire season, they could definitely win it all. Also Yi has looked good playing with the bucks, he could have been drafted 1st or 2nd in a year without durant and odem. |

Go the suns! the suns are travelling well considering that Nash has NO FORM what so ever. And amare is finally getting back into match fitness.
And yeah, i'm waiting to see boston travel against some of the real contenders not just pretenders. they've got 3, but teams like spurs, suns, jazz, mavs, have 4 or 5 super stars in their team. Oh and kobe shouldn't have been MVP. |

I guess I just have a different opinion of valuable. I'm not trying to knock Nash, but the talent around him is pretty high class. If you swapped Jason Kidd for Nash in the Suns they may not be as good (who knows they might even be better?) but the Suns would still be a top quality team and contenders for WCF.
There's no-one you could've swapped into the Lakers for Kobe (not even LeBron) that would've saved them from being one of the worst teams in the league for the last couple of years, but instead they've made the playoffs each time (losing to the Suns in the first round). What's more valuable, a player who makes a quality team a little better or a player who brings bottom dwellers to the playoffs? I lean to the latter but I do understand 'best player on the best team'. I'm a little sad the other Lakers are starting to play well (and the bench has been amazing lately). It might be the end of 81 points in a game or 4 consecutive 50+ games. |

Antisane, sure Nash has alot of talent around him, BUT, Amare and Marion can't create there own shot, they're great finishers (and Marion has one hell ugly shot release) but they can't create there own shot. Which is one of the reasons why Nash is so valuable. He makes them better, he creates the shots for them. Kobe however is a selfish player. He's playing some good ball at the moment though, and the lakers are playing better when Kobe takes less shots and only scores in the mid 20s.
Besides, the most valuable player in the NBA has got to be King James, go look at the Cavs record without him. Last season I was really REALLY hoping for a Sun vs Warriors play off series, I love small ball (what someone called run and gun) and getting to watch those two teams go head to head would have been impressive. To whoever said the big 4 of the west were the suns, spurs, mavs, jazz you might want to rethink that given the Jazz are on a 7 game slide atm. Infact the 4th best west record belongs to the Nuggets. If the play offs were to start today, the Jazz would be the 8th seed. Step: Chicago always starts slow, its because they rely heavily on streaky shooters like Gordon, once they find some consistency they usually creep up and get one of the last spots in the play offs (hopefully not at the expense of my Bucks). Unfortunately that is all their roster is capable of, they really need to trade some guards for a decent forward, Pau Gasol or Jermaine O'Neill imo. Celtics big 3 are so awesome, but they'll make atleast 1 more trade before the deadline, I'm thinking one more decent role playing guard probably or another big that can fill up the keyway, grab boards and give out some fouls. Whoever said that the Celtics have had it easy so far is right, majority of the games at home, only 2 really high quality opponents so far (Magic + Cavs). Infact the first true test of the Celtics quality is occuring right now. Best big 3 vs best starting 5 in the NBA! http://www.nba.com/games/20071219/DETBOS/gameinfo.html?nav=scoreboardhome One of the bigget X factors left this season, is when the nets decide to desolve there roster. Whoever gets Jason Kidd is going to become and instant contender in my opinion. Tayf: I play Thursday nights at Carina and Sunday nights at Auchenflower atm. Anyone know of a good website/torrent that I can download full length games from? I hardly ever get to watch games now, and havn't managed to convince my fiance that we need foxtel yet. A friend from work usually downloads alot of the play off games, however he's chinese and so are the commentators as well as the website he gets them from. |

myp2p.eu streams a lot of NBA games, check the forums for links that aren't in chinese..
Anyone play fantasy? I'm in the OCAU league on yahoo. Picked up Ilgauskis and Kaman as my centres (two tallest, goofiest looking white guys in the league) and they came out and carved up the league. Elton Brand should stay injured. And I can tell just how important King James is to the Cavs because when he's out Ilgauskis' stats completely disappear. And look, Pistons beat the Celtics.. |

On the topic of US sports, does anyone here follow the NHL or NFL even? Just curious seeing there is quite a decent NBA following appearing here.

Pity the main trio of Hinrich, Gordon and Deng sucked majorly from the get go. Things are atleast slowly improving though, but Scott Skiles isn't helping matters to be honest. |

I found my copy of NBA live 2001 just the other day, brings back memories. I haven't played or followed basketball for quite awhile but this thread sure brings back some nostalgia. Is there any streams available for games? Making time to watch something on TV that is only on at a specific time slot seems so prehistoric.
