I find it amusing that the only reason 80000 people are going is for beckham. I know he is a pretty big deal but if that ankle injury ruled him out it would probably make 90% of the 80000 stay at home.

What more could you ask for in a half of soccer? (although some of the passing has been horrendous)
Sydney leading LA 3-1 and Beckham putting away a trademark blinder of a freekick. Organisers would be creaming themselves right now. |

He is on another level compared to most of the players in that game, his passing game is beautiful. Pin point accurate long range balls, no one else was doing that.
Again take the corners, great crossing passes but theres not much attack going on from the rest of the team. If it was a ManU/RM corner you'd have the forwards airborne connecting with their heads. The red card was disgusting, that is not what you want to see ever let alone a friendly exhibition game. f***ing poor form... He should be fined however much all the LA players are being paid for coming over to play imo. Apart from the red card incident I thought the game whilst a little sloppy was very entertaining. I also thought it was great form that Beckham played the full 90 mins. He knew the stadium was packed out for him and he could've easily gone off after appearing to hurt his ankle. last edited by rubba-chikin at 23:41:45 27/Nov/07 |

Well most of the Galaxy players get around $20-30k a year don't they?..how much can you fine them. I thought it was an OK exhibition match. |

I was at the game tonight - atmosphere was awesome.
Seeing Beckham's bender is something very memorable - and the fact that the game was 5-3 was also good. Props to the Sydney FC guys for getting right up after a challenge (and even starting fights about them) versus LA Galaxy and their typical soccer weanie behaviour of laying all about on the ground, only to spring up and be perfectly fine. If all soccer games were like that (particularly with the 5-3 scorelines), I'd go more often. Sadly, they're not, so I'm happy that my first and last experience attending a non-world-cup professional soccer match was this one. |

yer, i watched a bit of the game, but as with nearly all soccer games, found it extremely frustrating, despite the high scoring;
dear soccer, until you get rid of the lame acting for penalties, i will never watch you. also, please make the goals wider, or something. love spook |

From what I saw of it, it looked to be quite a s*** match full of mistakes. Most A-league games are of a higher standard than what that was. I mean it was a team that is in the bottom half of the a-league vs a team that was in the bottom half of the MLS.
Though its quite sad that the majority of 80000 people go to a game because of one player, especially when much better players have graced the country in the last year. He's a good player but not worth going to a worthless game for. |

You may have thought it was worthless, however 80,000 other people would probably say otherwise...
Dear Spook, We thank you for your letter and we try to make every attempt to make for an exciting sport. Unfortunately due to players actually being pansies they are not acting for penalties. They really do think they are hurting. We regret to inform you that we cannot remove such behavior until the players harden the f*** up. Thank you for your time Spook. Regards, Soccer Australia |

How was it not a worthless game? 2 smalltime teams playing a friendly.
I saw chicago vs LA over here for the last game of the MLS season. So I've seen LA play before and they aren't overly entertaining. |

beckham is a total fag. Why would you go from playing European A league, where the best of the best are, to some s***house team in LA that the f***ing sydney fc can beat. Cause he played for the two biggest clubs in 2 of the 3 best leagues in the world and won pretty much everything there is to win whilst playing alongside the best players in the world. He thought he would end his career at Real but couldn't after they started pissing off all the galactico's when a different president took over in an effort to clear out the locker room. He already stated there wasn't any other team he would play for than Man U and Real. His last season when they won la liga he showed yet again that when he gets put down he ends up proving himself to everyone yet again, just like when he left Man U and just like when he got carded off during the world cup and was blamed for Englands loss only to come back as captain and score what is probably his best ever free kick or getting blamed for Real's bad performance last year and getting left out of the team for a month, only to come back and play awesome for months and being a major part in them winning their first silverware for 4 years. Seriously, you couldn't ask for a better role model for kids in sports especially considering the drug f***ed 'hard c***s' that league and afl etc produce over here. |

5-3 to Sydney.
Was an entertaining game i'd have to say. It was crappy in parts but still entertaining. You can definately see the difference of game quality between our australian league and leagues liek the EPL and South American leagues, they just don't make simple mistakes like passing the ball to the opposition 5 or 6 times. |

It was awesome to see the home team smash the big name international team. How was it not a worthless game? 2 smalltime teams playing a friendly.ahah are you quite sane, sir?!?! 80,000 people turned up basically to see David Beckham, the world's most famous and arguably one of the best soccer players (ever). There were a s***load of goals, once of which was a CLASSIC Becko penalty. There was a bit of biffo (which was a bit sad really, but at least it was started by that f***ing retard on the LA team). Also, lunch's post is awesome, don't hate beckham just because of his incredible talents, massive appeal to wimmen, and his hot wife. He's a f***in champion |

Beckham is a one footed player, he can't header and doesn't score many goals. He is good with set pieces but I'd say in the current generation that even Juninho for Lyon is much better. He is inconsistent under pressure (world cup 98 send off, euro penalty miss against greece). I rate Beckham as a solid player in his generation, but far from the best. Compare him to players like Zidane, Henry, C.Ronaldo, Messi and he really doesn't seem that good. Compare him to players like Best, Pele, Maradona, Cruyff and Cantona and he is laughable.

what fpot said. You could also argue that players like Pirlo, Recoba or even Ronaldhino all offer just as much in the free kick department now. Don't get me wrong he is still one of the best free kick takers in the world now and would have been the best 8 years or so ago.
L.A Galaxy aren't a big international team. Their average pay aren't much higher than A-league teams and there are much better teams in the MLS. The mexican league is of a higher standard than the MLS :P. |

I don't need to watch big international teams to have fun watching soccer. As Storm said there were a s***load of goals; if anything that game was probably far better for soccer in Australia than watching a 1-0 exhibition game between Man U and Liverpool or something - which, if what I got from the half-time interview with Anthony Laplaglialgialgia, was completely and utterly the point of it. |

That the target market that game was trying to reach got exactly what they needed out of the game and actually shows that the reason for buying Beck's was valid if he can generate that kind of interest everywhere they go. If it helps promote football in Australia to people who normally wouldn't be interested then the game was a great thing. Such a shame that Zidane didn't end up playing. There were rumours of him playing for Sydney FC in the match at some stage. Then you could have said that one of the worlds greatest ever players was on the field, and there wouldn't be many arguments :) last edited by Lunch at 12:00:16 28/Nov/07 |

The FFA are in the process of trying to organise some of the bigger european or south american teams to come over here for some pre-season friendlies.
You just said earlier you watched a local team beat a big international team so that's why I pointed that out. I do hope it converts a few more people to trying to get into what the A-league does have to offer though. Queensland has an incredibly entertaining team to watch at the moment. With zullo and kruse currently running riot on the wings and moore and danny T causing damage at the back it's a joy to watch. |

I don't need to watch big international teams to have fun watching soccer. When I watch teams like Sydney FC and Galaxy play I am constantly annoyed by the s***ty first touches and constant f***ups made by the players who are simply not in the same class as the top European players. If I am going to sit in front of TV and watch some guys play soccer, then I want to watch the best. |

i think its not beckhams fault for galaxy being s***. Beckham is a quality player, not even zidane and others are more accurate with the lob or long pass. They are more of a short pass master. The problems is, galaxy should of bought a few quality players . So they should of bort int zidane, rivaldo, makelele when he retires or something
