Sounds like its not mounted flat on the GPU, maybe try a remount.

my 8800GTS runs at about 56-58 celcius while just sitting in windows and hits about 70 while playing cs (haven't bothered testing it in crysis) and that's with the stock cooler and a plethora of fans moving more air through my case than is in a blondes head.
I'm with rubba, define "hot as f***". |

I have a 6600gt and the same thing happened to me. I went and got a Cooler Master Cool Viva...
First link I found with a (crappy) pic and it was a mega mega king kong biatch to install. Mind you it was my first ever cooler installation but f*** me it was a pain in the cock region I tell ya. I ended up having to buy extra bolts and dodge it up, cos I busted one from memory, but so far it has worked fine. Doesn't seem to be overheating or anything. Thermal paste is your friend but a little goes a long way, as I found out the hard way. Cue alcohol wipes and attempt number two. Sorry I can't be of more help with your particular card but my advice is stay away from the CoolerMaster Cool Viva. It is a very bad man. |

i had to part some of the fins around a capacitor at first it was idling at like 92 degree's cause it wasn't seated properly, so i parted them more and made it sit flat.
it idles at 65º gets up as far as 90º in games and it's making games run crap because it's getting so hot it only goes on 2 ways, the way i have it and around the other way which makes the spread of fins go into the motherboard. it doesn't fit, hence what else does anyonw know that does fit |

Those zalman coolers are huge and heavy, I felt it was gona kill my 6600GT when I put it on. As soon as I installed it the video card died due to the PSU frying it so now its my spare cooler for if my video card fan gives out.

same deal, same principals of cooling, same type of heatsink materials
overheating with a zalman means you lack the skills to install it properly |

im not being a tard, it DOES sound like YOU have done something wrong foo
there is very little that can go wrong if you install it properly, think about it if the right parts are touching, theres no way that heatsink/fan isn't big enough to keep that card cool |

have you thought that maybe the heat sink doesn't fit it ? instead of thinking because yours fits that they must fit for everyone ever.
i'm pretty sure it's because of the capacitor heating it up |

you bought a cooler which is made to do exactly what you're using it for, of course it wouldn't fit
otherwise it would make too much sense don't make me come around there and show you how its done |
