Ok, Getting my tax monies back, plus I am working more for more money now, so im like...f*** it im getting a flat screen TV finally!

So on the way home from the air port I checked out the Sony DFO, they had KDL V2000 (40inch) for $1687 Factory Second or like 2000~ New, but I would extend the warantee to 4 years.

But they also had this KDL 40X2000 (40 Inch) 1080p etc

So thats Sony, I have read a few reviews, Sony are mean't to be ok, but from what I have read the Toshiba have better quality.
Toshiba REGZA 42C3000
So this is 1080p (kinda..) and its bigish too. But apparently it doesn't display poor quality stuff very well, which is a bit of a worry, because I have compressed all my TV show DVDs into 350meg~ files, I would be pissed if 1, the DVDs didn't play very well or 2 the file library is useless to me!

So please help peoples?! Where can I get a good deal? Does anyone work for a Electrics Mob who wants some comission? Or even just to give me some decent advice?
Is there any good websites out there which compare the various TVs and give a round about current day price? (Yes I have googled, see above)

I don't really care either way on Plasma vs LCD. Both have their pros/cons, Leaning towards plasma actually due to colour depth and a few other things which I forget about now.

I got a KDL40W3100 (LCD - 1080P) Sony Bravia a few weeks back. Loving it. Can get the X series models from around $2600 now on special at JB.

I got a 46" 1080p Samsung LCD for $3300. I went through a wholesaler to get that price, as the RRP for the on I have is over $5k, but my old man told me that he saw the same one in Wow Sight & Sound a couple weeks back for about the same price. I don't know if that's outside of your price range, but this LCD has surprised most critics by displaying blacks as good as plasmas. Comes with 3 years warranty too.

aren't they all about the same these days?
tried ebay?
i know there's lot of LG haters out there but i've had the 42" plasma for 2 years now without a hitch.
what i've done for all my purchases is go to the regular suspects, H/Normans, WOW, JB, take a look at what you like personally, then run an Ebay check on it. sometime you get a bargain sometimes you just buy at the store

Yeah cool Ill have to check out Wow and JB. LCD's seem easier to obtain etc.

I don't want to spend more than 2.5k, and ill probably be buying a stero as well (900+)

Anyone know how bad the difference between 8ms and lower is?

I'm currently in the market also.

Thinking of going for a Hitachi 50" HD plasma.

Hitachi seem to be a touch cheaper than other 'well known' brands - anything I should be concerned about?

find out who the extended warranty is with. I was told when I got my xbox on extended warranty (because you know it will fail) that from the first year you just take it back to the store and after the extended warranty kicks in you then have to ring the company the warranty is with and deal with them. Do some research on the company taking over the warranty once it's out of its standard warranty period and make sure they're not some shifty mob who tend to not pay out.

Samsung...

so many unhappah big-screen owners are now beginning to feel the pain of crappy warranty that isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

I have this thing for warranty though.. just go for the best price if that's your thing bloke

His lcd store is just a front for his goat smuggling business. Don't support the smuggling of innocent goats :(

Thinking of going for a Hitachi 50" HD plasma.

I've got one, I picked it off the wall as having the better quality at clive peters but foxtel looks like s*** on big tv after watching HD feeds. I'm pissed about that.

Because foxtel is only SD. It's like getting a 640x480 jpeg and hitting resize in photoshop and resizing it to 1920x1080. Try it and see how s*** it looks.

hmmm, just noticed that fujitsu are dumping plasma for being not profittable . .. . .

probably not long before all the other manufacturers do the same i guess

glad i went lcd

http://www.smh.com.au/news/home-entertainment/fujitsu-pulls-plug-on-plasma/2007/12/31/1198949717824.html

Japan's Fujitsu group said it will end production of plasma televisions, a technology which it was the first in the world to introduce commercially, due to lack of profitability.

Spidz, in that article it says Hitachi took over Fujitsu's plasma operation in 2005. This means your hitachi screen will be very good because Fujistu invented plasma and the quality I'd seen on the fujitsu's is awesome. Much better than competitors when you compare them at the store.

Personally I don't like LCD's - a lot of them make movies look like stage productions. Hard to explain what i mean though....

Now keep in mind this is all opinion, but it is a very well informed one ;)

LCD is great for brightly lit rooms and daytime viewing. LCD is arguably better for PC and gaming as you can get higher res panels and fine text looks a little sharper, though this is less of a winning point now that 1080P plasma panels are widely available. Also you don't have to be concerned about posssible image retention (fyi burn-in only occurs if you do something dumb like leave a screen paused on full brightness for a day).

As for the one you're looking at....hmm it's a pretty old model now.

Plasma is better for dark environments (true black, though LCDs are nearly as good now). Plasma is also better for displaying SD content - I don't know why but it just seems to scale low res stuff better than LCDs. Plasma is also better for watching sports and movies if you're into that (colour gamut, better response, no ghosting).

I just bought a 50" Samsung 1080P Plasma for $2800 (RRP is ~$K), which currently comes with a free 26" LCD TV. It is f***ing awesome :) Can help out with receipts if anyone is interested.

because I have compressed all my TV show DVDs into 350meg~ files, I would be pissed if 1, the DVDs didn't play very well or 2 the file library is useless to me!

Videos that might look ok on my PC look like utter pixellated, blocked to hell s*** on my TV. The lack of post processing in XBMC is half to blame (Where the f*** is it? do I have to manually edit the configs to get ffmpeg deblocking?) and that the size of the TV vs how much video information there is left after the encode. I tried leaving the videos as their raw and unaltered state and behold the glory of awesome picture!

LCD is great for brightly lit rooms and daytime viewing. LCD is arguably better for PC and gaming as you can get higher res panels and fine text looks a little sharper, though this is less of a winning point now that 1080P plasma panels are widely available.

I'll agree with this though, I saw some MASSIVE plasma screen in the store I got my tv from, I'm talking TV you'd need a flatbed truck to deliver, they won't fit in a normal every day van either. They were playing things from ice age to days of our lives (wtf) and they all looked damn awesome even up close where all the LCD's I've seen still get the jaggy pixellated look up close.

I'm in no way a plasma fanboy now so don't go p.m'ing me for a date spook.

I took my ZenW into a few stores last week to test scaling of composite inputs on 46+ screens. After seeing the sony kdl 46x3100's scaling of composite inputs and other lower res inputs vs the other 46 and 50 inch lcds and plasmas we bought it on the spot. Awesome screen backed up by the ability to scale older video data properly.

Only hiccup is the RRP is 4199 or something. I paid less but it was through a family member who is now out of stock afaik.

something else to keep in mind is LCD's look more vibrant under the excessively bright lighting in most stores because they're brighter (this goes back to my LCD is better for a very bright environment comment). You'd never use those over-saturated 'dynamic' settings at home.

Matty, if you still have splat's msn or number, get him to give you my number, i'll sort you out at work. i'd msn you, but msn's being gay on my comp atm

Unless you can get a 1080p plasma for $3300.. Nope? :)
umm....yeah, 50" panasonic or samsung 1080P plasma for that price, and the samsung comes with a free 26" lcd

fujitsu going out of plasma technology isn't the end of plasma, it's just that they were a, if not, "the" premium brand. it's that other brands were dropping price (and arguably, quality), but fujitsu wouldn't do a thing to compromise the quality of their screens, so no price drop. hence, not competitive in pricing.

seriously, plasma's are fine in well lit rooms. it's really only if there's a window directly behind the seating position.

basically, the 1080P plasma's that are coming out (except the LG) are very impressive, and are far more forgiving on downloaded and low res content

I was just about to pull the trigger on a 50" Plasma, then I decided I didn't want my power bill to double.

Now considering the 46" Bravia LCD with the free PS3
