A new version of GIMP, the open source Photoshop alternative, has been released. The new version has a slew of new features so is worth an upgrade - you can nab it locally right here from AusGamers Files (or for Linux).

Have they de-gayed the interface yet?

Agreed. I'm often happy to use open-source alternatives to major software packages, even if they're lacking a few of the features, but I can't say I'd ever use GIMP over Photoshop. It could just be because it's so vastly different in terms of how it works. I'm sure GIMP can do most of the things I use Photoshop for, but the interface is just so alien to me.

I'll admit to being a closet open source monkey but I too dislike The GIMP.

The interface isn't so bad once you get the gimp deweirdifyer (not sure whether it's been updated for a while) which makes it act more like a normal windows app where everything is attached to a single windows form.

I tried using the GIMP - I went straight back to PS's standardised, straight-forward approach to GUI design....

There were some good comments in the slashdot thread about how GIMP is better for multi-monitor setups because you can have one monitor dedicated to the image in full screen, and the GUI parts on the second monitor
