Topic: Custom Taxi Serivce

I had a thought on train this morning about a business. Was wondering if it exsits.

Basically it's a taxi serivce where the cars are all hotted up imports or nicely done classic cars and hotrods and stuff.

If there isn't one already, feel free to use this idea if you want. I don't have the desire to do it, but someone into nice cars might.

You could have a website where you can see the cars and book them (not just go to a taxi rank) and they would be for more special occasions like weddings or formals or just want to rock up at a function in style.

Also the drivers could drive "fast" but within legal limits to make the ride enjoyable.

Maybe start small with a few cars privvately owned and people who own cars can just earn some money on the side. Maybe talk to some car groups. Maybe get some cute chick drivers for a different feel.

Dunno what laws would be involved but might be a good business. I wouldn't mind the odd classy drive, even just to see what it's like in a particular classic car (mmm, Cobra).

Ok, thats enough time wasting. Back to work.

chicks can drive hotted up cars just as good as guys. I realise that you might prefer to be in the passenger seat of a nice car with a sweaty overweight hairy dude that smells like cigarettes - and that's your decision to make - but some wouldn't.

Cool idea, I'd certainly try it every now and then if you got to pick what car you got picked up in and it wasn't significantly more expensive than a regular taxi, just to see what the cars are like. I've never really been in a sports car thing except a porchse.

My father use to own a 36 Ford Tudor he use to hire out for Weddings, School formals etc. There are quite a number of people who do this.

Exactle, there's a massive amount of car buffs that do this.

As a general taxi service I don't see it working, but they will always be around for special occasions.

doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I get freaked enough as it is though when taxi drivers do 100 in a 60 zone. Just imagine some of the tool drivers that biz would attract especially when you have customers wanting to see what the car can do.

The problem is a massive V8/high HP tuned turbo engine is going to chew through faaaaaaaar more fuel then a regular taxi, plus if you want some "enjoyable spirited driving" there goes even more.

I saw this just for fun article in a street machines mag once where they'd sketched up some classic American muscle cars as taxi's and asked an engineer if it'd be possible. There are some fairly restrictive rules governing which cars can be used as commercial passenger transport type stuff. The obvious one is the car has to have 4 doors so that kills all the coupes. Theres a load of other s*** too which would make any old car hard to be acceptable.

The other idea hiring muscle cars out for whatever occasion is already done.

Yeah, know of a few people that hire out their cars for peoples weddings and stuff.

In the Mini Owners Club there have been a few times that someone wanted 5 minis for their wedding. And one guy has a stretched mini you can hire.

Anyways, there are probably problems but sounded like an interesting idea.

any sort of taxi service (ie one where the cars do quite considerable amount of kays) would be prohibitively expensive and not too many people choose to rat up such nice cars.

A couple weeks ago on Chaser, they had a Back to the Future "De Lorean" car they were hassling John Howard from. So there must be some dude with a De Lorean that hired it to them. Pick me up in that doc!

I saw a bloke with a DeLorean on one of those current affair shows the other day (it was a segment with Merrick Watts and his muscle cars).

He said he just enjoys the looks and people pulling up at lights with comments like "where's the flux capacitor?".

I reckon they look f***ing cainer, I would love to own one.

I've figured that out between 2004 and now :P

Anything goes when you're a teenager, there's no consequences or responsibilities.

I was lucky I got an OP9 while absolutely drug f***ed during highschool, now everythings settled down and I'm very healthy / studying at university.

Meh, what can you do :)

Anyway back onto cars, my old man is looking at doing up an original Ford GT now that he's got the $$. Will surely scab that off him at all avaliable opportunities :D
