I too was not aware the term 'digger' was used to describe modern Aussie soldiers, I thought it was reserved for the retired ones.
But moving on, as sad as it is, I suppose that we're lucky that we've lost so few soldiers to this stupid war. We've fared much better than the US. |

I don't know if you could call Afganastan a stupid war. There were problems there and it is widely supported that the place is better now then it was before. Unlike Iraq and all the shiz going on there. |

Unless you dug or were an overall part of digging in previous wars, you're not a digger ffs.
My cousin is in Afganistan now, he's with the 4RAR, they just alternate him between Afgan/Timor/Iraq non-stop with maybe 2 months a year back at home, definetely getting their moneys worth. |

I'm glad we're still in a position feel shocked/care about these kind of loses. Using the first results I got from google there have been 3837 US Military fatalitlies in Iraq. Link. And 75,598 – 82,370 "Documented civilian deaths from violence". Link.
I don't know how correct those numbers are, nor would I suggest there is no agenda behind their circulation on the internet. (Justification of the military action isn't the issue here.) But one thing I will say is that by that stage they're all just numbers rather than real people. |

what about the guy that "accidentally shot himself"
technically he's a casualty of war, if it weren't for the war he wouldn't have been there / needed a gun |

what about the guy that "accidentally shot himself" That was in Iraq, and why is accidentally shot himself in quotation marks? Do you think it's a big military coverup?. Yeah US fatalities are nearing 4000, and there WiA is upwards of 60 000 (including mental and physical). |

I was thinking this morning when I saw Howard and the like on the news talking about this guy. I wondered if the Taliban hold press meetings everytime one of their guys are killed. This could be our downfall because we value life maybe too much and they don't value it all. When a enemy doesn't care if they live or die that is a pretty big thing to beat. We value our life on earth and they seem to value life after death, how can you compete with that.

He said the best part was pwning cars with a grenade launcher if they got too close to the convoy :) Gave them about 5 seconds, few shots into the front grill, then if they don't back off, BAM! No questions asked. |

That didnt really happen did it...That wasn't the worst of what he told me. Simple logic, they do 160km/hr through packed Baghdad streets, so if any car approaches at that speed, you can be 110% sure it's not a civilian, so they don't mess around. He said they slow down for nothing, if there's women/children/anyone on the road they just run them down/wrap them into a pole... he said it's sad mowing down a group of children, but the moment you drop below 160k you're a target for bombs/rpg's and such... and obviously the VIP's life is worth more then any Iraqi. |

Wouldn't a group of children do a fair bit of damage to at car at 160km/hr?

Wouldn't a group of children do a fair bit of damage to at car at 160km/hr?If you mean reinforced military jeeps with massive bullbars... then no. Well at least he is considerate....be realistic, you got to do what you're told, it's the military. If you slowed down for every single civilian on the road, you + the VIP would be dead in no time. It's not like they're flooring it through the green zones... if you slow down to 40km/hr outside where all the violence is happening you're an easy target. Don't act like he's evil, if you're in the military you got to do what you're ordered to do and you have to do whatever keeps you alive. Meh, it's a terrible war, I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions. |

if you're in the military you got to do what you're ordered to do...wo wo slow down champ... For whatever reason it may be, you made a choice to be in the military. (I'd say a lot of them are there for the money and couldn't give dick about "the war on terror"). So whatever happens after that is on your conscience. You've got just as much blood on your hands (or on your tank) as the person ordering you to kill the innocent, which sort of contradicts the whole reason why the invading scums are there in the first place don't you think? But you're right on one thing, iraqi blood is the cheapest blood going around at the moment, followed by the blood of niggaz and latinos fighting in the front line trying to get their PR and/or get their criminal record cleared. How ironic. last edited by Wo Wo Slowdown Champ! at 16:31:45 28/Oct/07 |

I agree, the blood is on his hands, but he's not fully responsible... whether that makes any difference, I don't know.
On one hand you're saying he's an evil f***er, then on the other hand you got other QGL members telling us to "show some f***ing respect" over something as trivial as saying that current soliders aren't "diggers". All war is s***, but there's definetely nothing honourable about fighting in Iraq at the moment. He hates killing people over there, he always reinforces that point that the special forces are kitted out to the max with all the highest quality equipment and the Iraqi's have a few dirty broken rifles and homemade bombs... it's very unfair fighting, pretty much suicide on their part. |

I never said the digger that died "was an evil f***er". I said those that kill innocent people (irrespective of who you're fighting for) and then shift the blame on to their superiors are also responsible for the blood shed. I said this in reference to your mate getting his daily kick out of lobbing grenades at approaching vehicles and running people over perhaps because they're stuck in traffic, which often tends to happens since traffic laws are none existent.
And yes, it's an unfair fight, yet the coalition of the double-standardizing can't admit 2 things: 1 - that they can never justify this war no matter what excuse they come up with 2 - that they're gradually losing said war. and now it's Football time. last edited by Wo Wo Slowdown Champ! at 17:08:44 28/Oct/07 |
