Topic: Best settings for ripping vids for iPod

I'm using videora to rip vids and I've got it set to best qual., which means they look fkn awesome on my Touch, but they take up as much space as the original files.

What are some good settings to maintain decent quality but with smaller files? Also, is there a way to automatically maintain whatever the original ratio of the vids are when converting? When I convert shows to 480x320 they are fine, but obviously when I do the same to widescreen movies it stretches.

MediaCoder perhaps?

Haven't tried myself, but plan to go buy a video this or next week.

hmm... i'm not sure if you read my post or not, but I was after the specific settings, eg sample rate, res, audio qual etc.

Have you tried Mediacoder? Cause I think it has presets for iPod so you dont have to touch anything. I might be mistaken though.

Ahh okies Raven:p I'll check it out but not sure if it's what I'm really looking for as videora has the same sorts of presets.

I use quicktime pro to encode my stuff. It has settings for exporting to the iPhone (same res screen as the touch) and like yours they come out at about the same file size as the original too, even though it's a smaller res.

I'm not that fussed about file size at the moment - they're awesome quality and the aspect ratio is fine, so that's enough for me.
