Anyone hear about this?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/hackers-deface-libs-website/2007/10/10/1191695949266.html

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,22561860-5006301,00.html

These reports say it 'MAY HAVE' happened, the govt is denying it - anyone know whether or not its real?

Story:
THE Liberal Party website may have been hacked to make Prime Minister John Howard appear to enjoy engaging in a lewd homosexual act.

Mr Howard today assured the public that he did not make a lewd comment attributed to him on an email purporting to contain a screen grab from the Liberal Party website.

Under the heading The Liberal Party of Australia, hackers inserted: John Howard Says "I like to suck dick!".

From Australian IT

To show the manipulation in action, Bsoric has created a website which enables users to key in anything they wish. The entire text would then immediately appear on both political parties' website.

"This page is for novelty purposes only.

"It does not 'hack' either party's site, it just uses a simple, easily found XSS vulnerability to insert your message," Bsoric wrote on his website.

and

He said the vulnerability was exploited via a special URL and the "attacks" were only visible to the person who had entered the text.
