I recieved a mail from nintendo on my Wii tonight offering a free jacket for my WiiMote.

Information for "Wii Remote Jacket"

Australia, Melbourne, October 2, 2007 - Nintendo is committed to ensuring an innovative and unique game play experience on the Wii. To help players adapt to this new style of play and provide additional protection we have created a protective cover for the Wii Remote - the "Wii Remote Jacket".

http://www.nintendo.com.au/newsimages/Wii Remote Jacket small1.jpg

We recommend to fit the "Wii Remote Jacket" to the Wii Remote in order to enhance your grip and provide additional protection if the Wii Remote is accidentally thrown or dropped during game play.

The "Wii Remote Jacket" is being offered free of charge to all Wii owners.

To request a "Wii Remote Jacket", contact NINTENDO CUSTOMER SERVICE on (03) 9730 9822 Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (EST)

Please have your Wii console serial number ready when you phone.

Ugh, 9am to 5pm? I'll have to call them from work ;_;

I'm in no place to complain though, it's not like they're asking for much in return for their free stuff.

how long did that train of thought take to unravel in your mind?

WiiMote, a word so lame that even Nintendo decided not to use it in any official capacity but people still call it that.

I've heard that it's officially called the Wiimote in France.

Dan, don't be a hater. WiiMote is what the cool kids call it.

Yeah, you gotta refer to it as the "Wii Remote" or they'll knock you back when you submit your game for certification. In the terminology lists it even says in big bold letters to NEVER call it a Wiimote, but then oddly thats followed by a note that says you can call it a Wiimote in France. Those crazy french.

I dunno why Nintendo have such hate for the term, its kinda catchy.

Oh, and on topic, thats a pretty generous offer on their behalf. I doubt I'll get one cos it looks kinda silly and I'm not retarded enough to let go of my Wii Remote while I'm playing, but still, props go to Nintendo for making the offer.

obligatory take off your pants & jacket comment goes here.

Good to see Nintendo throwing some love out for it's customers to address any future Wii-Remote related shenanigans. Wonder if they'll be packaging the jacket with new Wii consoles/replacement remotes?

Man, I haven't even ordered new wrist straps for mine, and I got it on launch day so they're the really thin ones. Guess I could do both these at the same time - since the Wii will start getting used again shortly, when Metroid is released.

My Wii has had the error "system files corrupt" for months now and I haven't taken it back yet cause I can't find the receipt. Anyone know if Myer will replace it for free?

how about just call nintendo and ask them. im sure they can tell how old it is from the serial number.

Also, even if you don't have the receipt, I'm fairly certain Nintendo will help a brother out. Basically, they have a 1 year warranty, and it was released here in December '06, so I think it won't be hard to convince them of its age...

Sit it horizontally and look on the right side, there should be a sticker with the serial number.

yeah, it is on the bottom if you have it in the vertical position. you will need to take off the grey base though.

Yeah I also ordered mine today, the guy was unusually friendly for a phone operator. He even asked for my name! Wow I didn't even have it ready in my head to give it to him - I was just staring at the serial # expecting him to id me by that.

Also they ask you how many jackets you need, so don't stress if you have multiple remotes.

He also asked me how I knew about the jackets, then he asked me if I understood exactly what the jackets were - and briefed me on them. Then he said they'll start mailing them out in 2 weeks.

Oh warning though, I was on hold for like 10 minutes first.

Ordered 4 straps and jackets just then.
Customer service was quick, clean and the operator was very polite. I was on hold for less than two seconds.
Three thumbs up for Nintendo

So do people actually genuinely want those jackets? Or are you just ringing up to get them cos its free stuff? Cos personally I think they look pretty damn gay and can't imagine actually using them.

Nah, I don't think I'll use them, just getting them because they're free. I did order the new straps along with them though, which I probably will use.

i put them on and they are actually quite comfortable to hold.

the pointer end is heavily padded, they must get a lot of kids smacking their friends with them when they play tennis or something.

The jackets, mainly cause it is free, but when SSBB is released here and for paper Mario, the jacket might make using the Wiimote sideways more comfortable.
The straps, well my cat has f***ed at least one of them, chewing on it.

Yeah, straps I can see as being handy, might ring up and get some straps, but I'm really not sure about the jacket thingies. What are the jackets made out of? just cloth?

I'm prolly gonna buy a Wii this Saturday seeing that Carnival Games gets released this week and I might see about getting some of those free thingys.

Any other cool party style games around besides Wii Sports? I've looked thru the EB Games site and didn't see any.

Wii Play, Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree or Mario Party 8

Wii play is $10 extra when you buy a wiimote, and is worth the $10 bucks.
Rayman has been getting good reviews, averaging 80%, i'd buy it over Wii degree.
Don't bother with Mario party. Preorder SuperSmash Bros Brawl, it'll be the end all party game.

Except to make it work you'd need to play the fishing game or something to make it vibrate, or keep pointing it at the buttons on the screen

Mine just arrived, but the bastards didn't put in the straps that I ordered! How dare they not give me as much free stuff as I requested!

EDIT: Looking at the package, they got my work address wrong too. Lucky it turned up.

Went and bought a Wii this morning and been playing it for the last hour or so. I only have the Wii sports that came with it but damn it's fun. I sorta f***ed up a little buying some controllers though. I bought 2 extra nunchucks but I now see I also have to buy 2 more remote thingys as well. LOL.

Also, whats the deal with it saving games. Do I have to go out and buy a memory card for it or does it have a built in HDD?

I think the memory card slot is for Gamecube games?
Surely it has a HDD, since you can DL games and craete your own profile thing without buying a memory card. And it keeps a detailed log/history of everything you do.

the memory card slot is so you can backup stuff you download and so you can view pictures from your SDcard camera.

It doesn't have a HDD, it has 512MB built in flash memory. As Idol said, the memory card slots are for Gamecube games.

They send the straps separately, as it comes from a different warehouse.

Ah, that's okay then, hopefully they wont be far behind. Do you know if they're the new-new ones that have the little clippy thing on them? Or if they're just stronger?
