Sad day for fans of the Wheel of Time books - Robert Jordan died overnight from the illness he'd been fighting for some time now..

For those waiting on the 12th book, apparantly he sat down and spent 2 & a half hours telling his wife what he had planned for the end of the series.. so we'll still be seeing it released in one shape or another eventually..

http://www.dragonmount.com/RobertJordan/ has more (but good luck getting it to load, seems to be swamped under at the moment).

Did she scream "Spoilers!" then stab him?

Probably pretty disappointing news for fans! I gave up after like book 7 though cuz I just felt it was getting dragged out painfully. Enjoyed the first couple of books but I couldn't handle it any more after 7.

Noooooo!!!!

Hopefully it was far enough along to be finish-able by someone closely involved.

I have a friend that's obsessed with his books and was praying that he got the series finished before he died.

He is going to be absolutely SPEWING, I'm talking possible tears.

even if he didn't tell his wife, she'd be stupid to not come out and say "i have the rest of the books here/he recorded it all for me and has rough drafts written out"

she stands to make a killing (no pun intended) on the sale of the last book, right?

I know, I was going to call him up and torment him over the phone... but I have a bit of heart, I'm just wait till he comes on MSN and do it then.

Bugga

Although, I reckon any fan of the serious could make up a reasonable ending. Hmmm, maybe that's what we need. A site where people can write their own endings to the book.....for everybody to read.... ^_^ There you go Trog, next project.....

He never had any intention of finishing that 'series'. He just wanted to see how long people would chase a carrot.

somehow i think he's takin the piss if his name is ham water

That would be f***in right! I go into a transitional period of not reading past book 9 due to my limited attention span and now the guy wont be finishing the rest of the series! My motivaiton levels to read the rest have just slipped another notch.

RIP to a very respectable auther none the less.

Well i am definitely pissed off at this guy!!

I have read all his books so far, and enjoyed them for the most part (i wont bother to talk about how i hate the whining self opinionated bitches "Aes Sedai" etc)

But the reason i am pissed is that he got to book 11, then stopped writing to go back and write some kind of prequel... WTF

If you know you are going to drop off, you dont waste time doing f***ing prequels, you get the lead out and get it (the series) f***ing finished.

What a bastard!

GRRRR

What a god damn shame.

that just blows. WOT is one of the best series ever imo.

Yes it gets slow, but it was picking up pace at the end there. (book 7 was a bad place to stop).

BAH, annoying.

Are you kidding? It got even worse after book 7. His first 6 books were top notch, filled with action and intrigue. After book 6 though the series just went downhill, with no real significant events taking place, just the travelling of characters to a variety of different places. Personally, I found it a chore to read from books 7-10, 11 was starting to get better.

As for him carking it =\ thats really going to suck for major fans. However, should his wife take over lead role of writer perhaps the series may actually GO somewhere now.

All I can say is... sure you would waste that much time on a fantasy series.

Seriously, 11 chunky books, so many wasted hours on one story.

Too long.

Some people could say the same for fishing, aquariums or drugs.
Personally a book sucks me in more than any movie ever could.
