Hey guys, trying to troubleshoot my uncles ADSL, quite high Noise, can't figure out why.
On TPG 24mbit plan, living on Eleventh Ave @ St Lucia. (How the hell do you figure out where the exchange is?) Modem is the one they got with the plan, but do modems CAUSE high noise, or just make better or worse use of the noise conditions ??? Any help greatly appreciated. http://josh.net.au/error.jpg http://josh.net.au/stats.jpg |

Coorparoo ADSL2+ on iinet.
http://files.nextexit.org/images/lulz.jpg even with a s***gear lulz which seems a million times better than this brand new 7300A I bought a few weeks ago. Anyone else have problems with the 7300 and torrents causing the pings to go to about 3000 after an hour or so? Seems like it is trying to remember too many connection's or somethin'. Oh and on topic, check DSL Maps for the exchange locations jmr LOL AM I EDITING MUCH??? last edited by reso at 23:22:40 27/Aug/07 |

I might be stating the obvious..
1. Have you done an Isolation Test 2. What's the line like without anything connected (eg Phones). 3. Is there any obvious EMI.. Could always post on Whirlpool if you get no answers.. last edited by Morsar at 22:51:09 27/Aug/07 |

Yeah done an isolation test - found a security system plugged into the phone line in the bedroom cupboard - but can't find anything else.
Line is exactly the same - under 5000 sync Obvious EMI ? Electro Magnetic ??? Not that I can detect? |

put your phone number into whingepool and it will tell you your local exchange
then look it up on google maps and measure the distance reso, you gotta update teh firmware on the 7300 the netgear (lolz) is indeed a way s***ty router, i coudlnt wait to axe mine (nice speeds though) my 7300 handles torrents 24/7 at full speed with no dramas (with latest firmware) |

Yeah done an isolation test - found a security system plugged into the phone line in the bedroom cupboard - but can't find anything else. Do they use it? Security systems are the biggest enemy of ADSL. Disconnect it if they're not using it, cause you need to get a central splitter if they are. Oh yeah, and just for the record, I get similar downstream line noise to your modem, and a little worse (i think -20dB) upstream, and I get ~4.5/1 with a central splitter. last edited by mongie at 08:51:19 28/Aug/07 |

Ya rightio, so Toowong Exchange, to Seventh Ave St Lucia
Google Maps returned about 3.7km Versus my house, which Google says is 1.5km Anyone else ~3-4km from exchange and can post Sync Speeds? Does this look about right for the location of the Toowong Exchange ? http://josh.net.au/map.jpg Well I'm loving this edit - looks like its stiff s*** for him, (this is a guide form whingepool) A way to "guesstimate" the line attenuation is the following: (originally posted by Just 'Adam') Less than 1km should be 23-24Mbit 1.0km = 13.81dB = 23Mbit 1.5km = 20.7dB = 21Mbit 2.0km = 27.6dB = 18Mbit 2.5km = 34.5dB = 13Mbit 3.0km = 41.4dB = 8Mbit 3.5km = 48.3dB = 6Mbit 4.0km = 56dB = 4Mbit 4.5km = 62.1dB = 3Mbit 5.0km = 69dB = 2Mbit last edited by jmr at 10:12:38 28/Aug/07 last edited by jmr at 10:21:38 28/Aug/07 |
