Just a quick one, a few users have reported that the BioShock demo triggers a virus warning in AVG - you might see it has the "Trojan horse Generic6.UMS". I've had a poke around the Internets and seen a few other files also trigger this warning; it looks like it is always in a setup.exe file so I'm suspecting that it is a false positive caused by whatever installer package they're using (looks like InstallShield at first glance). We've checked the file out with another virus checker (McAfee) and it has come up clean. |

Right there in the Readme file:
The BioShock installer will automatically patch to the latest version of the BioShock game application as part of the install process. YOU MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE GAME. A progress bar will show the state of the patch download. Please do not interrupt the download or deactivate your internet connection during the download. If the download does not complete successfully, you can attempt to restart the download using the Start/Restart button. The downloader uses internet proxy and port settings as set up through Internet Explorer. If you have not set these, you can manually configure proxy and port settings in the BioShock installer. If you're not sure what values to put here, contact your ISP or 2K support at http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/support/. Some internet security software may detect this download as a Trojan or other compromisation of internet security. |

Can anyone go into details on this 2 install licence on the pc retail copy or link me to a news post? Yeah I pasted a link in the other Bioshock thread :) Here it is: link. Basically you have 2 install "credits". Everytime you install the game, you use up a credit. If you uninstall, the software contacts the servers and you get refunded a credit. If you forget to uninstall twice on separate occasions, you use up all your credits and lose all ability to install and play the game again. So you have to remember to uninstall before, say, formatting your drive. last edited by parabol at 22:14:34 23/Aug/07 |

the WoW virus: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/08/22/2011472.htm The problem with that control group is that there is no real permanent consequences, so it can't really be applied too closely to true human behaviour. Speaking of WOW viruses, lately theres been a WOW password stealer trojan on almost every infected PC I have cleaned at work. |
