if 1 person per business per day has a 15 minute dump @ work it costs the australian economy 1.2 billion in lost productivity and each employer $1250 per year.. thats the result of a report Surf Control an internet security company released today.

because that's hardly news worthy they based their report around one employee per firm spending one hour per day using facebook.com

you can read all about it in articles screaming about facebook costing us 5 billion dollars in lost productivity.

WTF is this facebook I keep hearing about? Is it like an adult myspace or something?

Wasting time at work ftw though! Nothing beats Australia Post, we usually have a 2.5 - 3 hour break (all paid) each day, a lot of people have a sleep, others watch a movie.

Facebook is pretty cool. Can be used to integrate into all kinds of other sites and with mini apps, which you can then tie in to RSS fees etc.

Eg, even though I can do it with Digg anyway, I can get feeds of all actions friends make on digg. Or they can just post general status updates and scribbles, which I can have feeds and widgets monitoring.

A 15 minute dump? What's the rush?

Grab yourself a magazine and get comfortable.

Coffee drinkers are the worst kind of addicts, they whinge more then hard drug users. Every bloody morning they just whinge and cry about being tired and needing a coffee. Harden up, if you need drugs to wake up in the morning, you got a problem.

Also smokers need to DIAF, they are the scum of society.

hehe, our coffee breaks at work ended up being reduced to two, after we were totally abusing the system and having up to 4 breaks a day

now back to 2

Exactly what I was thinking.

We used to have a coffeee machine that would take a while to use, heat the milk and all that jazz, then the big wigs got wise and got rid of it.

Now we have a fully automated coffee machine, one press for all your favourite coffees, hot milk, fresh coffee beans, the works. Oh and chocolate sprinkles. Can't forget the sprinkles.

Works well but doesn't waste as much time :(

I make a point of s***ting for at least 30 minutes in my work day. That's $15 out of tax payer money. I love the government.

My little trick is to have a spreadsheet open and if the boss comes by, alt+tab out of explorer into the spreadsheet and pretend I'm researching some new PC parts/upgrades/software licences. Another good trick is to just go for a walk around the building carrying a folder/tape measure/print out. I get my 30 mins of chardio and I look busy.

i can quite definitely state that the biggest waste of time & productivity in the company i work for is bad management. middle managers will spend hours of thier time making insignificant procedural changes which will 'save time & money' in theory & then present them to upper management as a great success! but meanwhile the workers, lacking further instructions from middle management, sit on thier arses doing f*** all waiting for middle management to stop playing with themselves n make some fukn decisions. /vent.

on the upside, i've been given the arvo off on full pay coz i have 4 jobs that are on hold pending middle management decisions. oorrrjeh.

no one in the history of working with computars, has ever successfully alt-tab'ed from something dodgy to something work related and not looked more dodgy than just looking at something dodgy in the first place
Hogfather

^^ is truth.

Even if the screen isn't visible, there is something about the alt-tab action itself that implies that something dodgy is being covered up. Its body language or something, a person alt-tabbing just screams s*** quick close this window!

I never stick it too anybody I just hold anybody who employs me in contempt. I have stolen countless amounts of drives, cables, monitors, pens, boxes of paper etc the list just goes on. My next goal is too steal a projector from a workplace. Funny thing is I never steal from anybody apart from the hand that feeds. They employ me they pay the price and I will never worry about their feelings or the bottom line, means nothing to me. 12 years and counting of theft, one day I will get caught but its all part of the fun.

I have witnessed over the years many people steal stuff from the boss. I could not give a s*** about my job or your job it means nothing. People worship their jobs for some strange reason, for me it is money, perving on chicks, an awesome coffee machine, stealing s*** and having long weekends. I love IT, the guys I work with now make my laziness seem very active.

I could take a 2 hour dump at work and they'd get no more productivity out of me (for the moment anyway). Since our last project finished, I get paid to come in every day and do nothing until our team is given a new game to work on.

What really f***s me off is a bloke i work with is on 110k a year. He has a smoke break every hour for a good 15 minutes. And seemingly does nothing at his desk. I work my arse off all day, non smoker and im only on 45k.
I guess he's just smarter than me.

Sorry thats retarded, because you dont take into account any lost productivity that would happen if they held it in all day and were distracted/couldnt concentrate.
I guess you'll counter by saying something like "well they couldnt concentrate on their work because they were thinking of what john might have scribbled on their facebook account" or something.

I dont understand why people need to Steal pens...
Work gives them to me for free. :)

I cant see my Supervisors (I use the term loosely) computer but I swear I can hear him playing Mine Sweeper 1/2 the day >.>

I just go and do a 'Field Check' if I need to waste time (Lack of Office work/frustrated with said supervisor).
That said, I usually have a few plans that do need field checks, I just take longer to make sure I havent missed anything :p

when employees are required to operate at an autonomous level, what c*** of an employer would want to monitor their facebook activity? it's not like it's downloading porn.
