As much as I now have a burning hatred for the Italian side, it was a stupid slide and I don't really think the ref had a choice.

It was a dive, but you can't be laying around the ball like that in a goal scoring opportunity.

I don't know if I'd call it a full on "dive"... more that he milked the penalty which is pretty different IMO.

Its hard to tell from some of the shots, but the first angle makes it look like he just stuck his leg out deliberately into neill. The second shot it looks like he is completely and utterly in control of himself and his balance, but the inexplicably, omgz, he's on the ground

In my opinion its a dive cause the eye-talian hesitates at first. When he first makes contact with neil he purposely doesn't take a step with his left leg. Anyway it was a silly tackle in the first place.

I don't think it's hard to tell that he could have stayed on his feet if he wanted to. Neil's tackle though COMPLETELY missed the ball and definitely hindered a goal scoring opportunity even if the guy had stayed on his feet...

He completely missed both the ball and the player as I see it.

The third angle in that clip I posted shows that Neil sticks his leg out wildly for the ball which is over about a metre away while the Italian casually taps the ball past him in the other direction. While he didn't have to fall over, he still had to negotiate a body on the ground that shouldn't have been there IMO.

Ahh actually Neil only just missed the ball with his left... but he still shouldn't have been on the ground like that. The advantage had to go to Italy.
