I thought the price cuts were active now?

http://au.gamespot.com/news/6176614.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0

From August 15, the 20GB-enabled Xbox 360 Pro system will retail for A$579.95 ($486), down from A$649. And perhaps more significantly, the Xbox 360 Core system's price will drop from A$429 to A$399.95. At A$399.95, the Core system is now the same price as a Nintendo Wii in Australia.

From AusIT.

MICROSOFT has moved to bolster its Xbox 360 line-up for the second time this week, setting a date and price for the Australian launch of its HDMI-equipped Elite variant, which will be joined next month by a Halo 3 special edition console.

It will be the most expensive Xbox 360, priced at $729.95, and go on sale August 30.

The Halo 3 version, meanwhile, will come with a 20GB drive and feature Halo 3-themed case and accessories. The machine would be released on September 20, days before the launch of the Halo 3 game itself, the spokesman said.

After playing the demo on 360, I can honestly say it doesn't suffer from not having a keyboard and mouse, it controlled great.

So what's the deal with online gaming on consoles then (never done it)... I can just pick up a 360, bioshock and plug my optus cable in and I'm laughing?

This is definetely sounding like the better option.

I haven't been this pumped for a game in years.

Pretty much, though if you want to play on Live (ie, online with xbox 360) you need a live subscription which costs $90 a year. Only $7.50 a month which basically is for the user of the live matchmaking services and all that. Without a live subscription, you can still download demos and trailers and downloadable content and all that, you just can't play online.

Can you buy the 20gb hdd later on if you just buy the core system? I've fallen in love with Forza 2 and am seriously thinking about getting a 360.

Like f*** it does, you can get a 12 month kit from JB Hifi for $69 with the headset.

Yeah, but you'd be better off getting the 120GB HDD instead of the 20GB HDD.

You can, if you don't intend to ever save your game.

If I were to buy forza 2 and a core console would I be able to save my forza 2 game? Cos thats all that would really worry me for a while.

you might get away with it with a memory unit?

i just got a 360 pro the other day and its AWESOME. gears of war rocks. looking to check out GRAW2 and maybe rainbow 6 too.

360 is definately the console of choice for online games. and shooters.

Also been playing a bunch of Worms on live, and a bit of Uno too :).

the casual games on 360 s*** on the wii.

No you wouldn't, to be able to save your game you would need to at least buy a memory unit, which is going to set you back another $50 or so, so add that onto the price of the system cos its pretty pointless without one.
