Hey,
I've got a problem with static coming from my speakers. The sound card is an Audigy 2 or 4 (I can't remember) and it's connected to a HiFi amp and then to HiFi speakers. The problem is that when ever I click on something and the hard drive does its thing, static comes from the speakers for the time that the hard drive is accessing. It doesn't matter what the volume control on the amp is set to, the static is the same volume regardless, reasonably quite but really annoying. Turn the amp off and no static. I've tried the on-board sound on the motherboard and it does the same thing. Any suggestions on how I might fix this? BTW it seams to have started after a mate came over and we connected his turntables to the amp. They weren't connected to the computer in any way so this may just be a coincidence. |

I feel like doing that.
It's an Audigy 2 soundcard. I just muted everything in the 'mixer' and it's still there. Gahhhh. |

Can you narrow it down by connecting something else to the input of the amp to see if it's the PC or not?
Looks like you did that. |

Serious answer: I remember reading something about this in PC Powerplay YEEEARRRSSS ago. I remember it was something about the audio signal being amplified twice and f***ing it up (although you said you muted everything so maybe not). Maybe it is being amplified by that fancy sounding soundcard and then amplified by your hifi headunit or something.

Since the static is coming when ever I click something I can only assume that the PC is outputing the static.
Tried the line out from PC into different line ins on amp - same problem. Mute everything, and individual items - still there:( |

I have a similar thing except it's a very low volumed 'buzz' sound whenever I move the mouse, the greatest and weirdest thing is it changes pitch if I am dragging and dropping a window. I can also make some pretty funky sounds since it changes pitch in ET when I bring the console down \o/
Onboard sound on a p5k-e, I can't remember if I worked out a way to fix it on the old dfi lanparty with onboard ac97 or what though. |

Well that's weird.
No static through the headphones BUT static is still coming through the speakers!?! Maybe I'm dealing with some super power electromagnetic force field that is emulating from the PC box and infecting everything in its wake? The PC box is about 1 foot from the amp, where its always been without prior issues, and the modem and wireless router are within one foot of the amp on the other side but again they've always been there. EDIT: Must be something to do with the wireless router is my current conclusion as the static is mainly noticable when click on links etc in websites. last edited by mission at 19:40:00 15/Aug/07 |

OK I seem to have fixed it.
Moving the wireless router further away has made it stop. The router must have been interfering with the amp. Which is a bit odd as it has always been in the same place. So the moral of the story is keep your wireless gear away from your amplifiers! Maybe the speakers are f***ed? AM5's never die. I will be buried with them. last edited by mission at 14:45:27 15/Aug/07 |

So the moral of the story is keep your wireless gear away from your amplifiers! My wireless router is physically touching my amplifier and no problems here :) |
