So my girlfriend dropped her lappy and she's done a good job of it, anyone know where I can get this fixed cheaply?

I pulled it apart today and pulled the power socket out of it, it was just dangling around in there.

I can bring it to someone in pieces, or as a whole. just needs this part soldered back on from what I can tell, don't want to pay some store $300 for it and I've not got the best soldering skills

nope.

if my Mrs did that to her lappy I'd just write it off, rebuild the parts into something handy for the kids room, and set it to play 'Hi-5' vids on demand.

be a man and make the most of it.

I am guessing you insured it.. no I'm not being rude here mate.. most of the guys who bring new laptops back who bought them for their GF... honestly thought their GF could look after them.

welcome to expensive s*** 101. My Mum once lost here $1k cdma phone overboard on the boat one day. Dad just laughed.. I'm working to afford the same. Ya just deal with it mate eh

oh man, the speel I gave her when I gave it to her not 4 weeks ago.
work gave me a new dell latitude which is pretty k-rad, so I said she could use it for uni

I dont think I need to write it off, it works 100% i just cant charge the sucker and all I want is a cheap laptop for her, for uni
I doubt damage like this would be covered under any warranty repairs, it's not dell's fault that women dont have respect for technology
hell yeah, that warranty would have been pro, Jim :(

I have insurance but my excess would likely exceed $200-300

complete cover guard is designed to cover exactly that kind of incident, among others. they'll repair if possible, otherwise replace. spill drink in your keyboard, knock the pc off the table, whatever

koopz is a very wise man, he speaks the truth. i would do, and have done, exactly what he suggests

my gf had her dell laptop (that i gave to her) magically have these cracks in the screen. adament she didn't do it, i just gave in, stripped the lappy for parts and chucked em under an old toshiba. Girlfriends will root up laptops, phones, cars etc if you don't help look after them for them.

oh and teq, unless you buy a wreck and do it yourself, it is going to cost more than $200-$300.

you've gotta be kidding me?
it's one piece that needs soldering back onto the board?

I would sooner buy a docking station before I pay > $300 to fix it
or some kind of separate charger for the b82rez

Complete Cover is the best thing ever to buy from dell. I've had every part of my inspiron replaced and some parts twice, always next day to my door anywhere in the world.

so yeah, I've sought many opinions and lots of people are saying the same thing, scrap it.

oh well, if you see a thread in the coming weeks entitled Car PC, you'll know what I've done :(
