note: this is somewhat similar to that white van thing that was selling speakers like a year back.

So today my friend and I were just getting out of the car at garbo and before we made 15 meters this Italian (so he said) guy drives up to us and goes on about how he works for Gergio Armani(sp) (he was well dressed ill give him that) and that they gave him these 4 jackets that he has no use for, that a long with the story that he had to leave the country later in the day and he didn't want to pay tax on them.

So he offers them to us initially for all 4 for the price of 1. ($1300). So friend and I played along and just kept questioning him about his story. He had a passport with stamped visa's and it looked looked pretty legit, even asked for the rent a' car papers (which he provided, but weren't in his name, bit suss there). Eventually he talked himself down to $400 for all 4 of them which TBH its a pretty good deal even if they weren't real.

After 20 mins of screwing around with him we said no and we parted ways.

Has anyone else seen this s*** around? Pretty OK chance that his story was for real and he just wanted a few quick bucks off what his company just gives him, but ill never know!

ps: he did some fire to leather thing to prove that it was genuine leather, but i was a bit skeptical of that.

I was parked in a local street when a white van pulled up next to me with a s***load of lush audio gear. They were trying to offload it for whatever price window to window.

No scam here. Just some thieves with some strange accents.

my old man purchased a set of those speakers, they wanted $2k from the white van
he eventually got them down to $300 (cheque) + $30 in cash for a carton of piss (their idea)

they're still going strong today, they look exactly the same as the $2500 wharfdale speakers I have in my lounge room, only an audiophile could tell the difference in sound quality for 90% of in-home use, in my opinion of course

I'd really like to know what kind of moron would think you're getting a good deal from someone dodgy enough to sell you s*** from a truck/on foot.

I keep reading these scam stories and people always say "my partner isn't stupid" or "now I'm no idiot but" well I hate to say it but if you get done by these scammers then yes, you are a f***ing idiot, your partner is an idiot, and you deserve to be parted from your hard earned cash you dumb s***s.

That white van came around my work one day & as soon as he said they were "theater quality speakers" I just thought yeah whatever, f*** off mate. We let him prattle on about how awesome they were & waste his time before eventually telling him to f*** off.

you can't blame the victim, people want to trust people, and they know how to exploit that

I disagree, for $330 you couldn't have a set of 6 speakers delivered to your house from anywhere.
if all you want is a real basic addition to your DVD player, it's not a half bad deal.
