Doesn't it somewhat seem silly releasing a demo of a game which is now so old that it can be found in bargain bins? Hell, I picked up Command and Conquer 3 today for $60, it won't be long before Quake 4 is a $20 game.

I think it's a bit sad that they've brought out all these awesome changes for a game that's dead and noone will even bother to try them oout

Incompatibility between versions is a pretty common issue in FPS games. In fact the only game I can think of that maintains compatibility between versions is UT2003.

I've got a couple of stories ...

A friend of mine brought his computer around about 10 years back, and we decided to fire up a game of multiplayer Doom. Only problem was there was miscommunication between us that led me to start Doom2 and him to start Doom.

Anyway, the two games had no problems connecting over the serial cable. Inside the game I saw him running around and sliding along walls. I thought he was f***ing around until I went over to investigate and realised what we achieved :)

Then there's Duke3D, where you could plug in a loopback serial adapter (or C64 joystick with the stick aimed at an angle) and start a multiplayer game. You end up connecting to yourself and there spawns 2 Dukes mimicking each other's movements. An interesting challenge was to shoot yourself, which is hard to do considering the other guy is moving/aiming in the same direction/angle as you :)
