When I worked at WC I was always impressed about how seriously they took email. When there were problems with mail, the whole place knew about it really, really quickly - so I would expect them to be working their asses off to fix it, if they are indeed having issues.

They are definitely having issues, our radio streaming is down (that never happens!) When I called the helpdesk I got the message that the building had been evacuated hahaha

Yeah I have no doubt. Don't get me wrong this isn't a webcentral bashing thread. I'm just curious.
I'm not even a webcentral customer but a lot of people are and they've been ringing me ("my emails aren't working")

Yeah really annoying, we're not getting any emails either... Strangely enough if you use Desk control you can get your emails but if you're using outlook you're out of luck..

PS this is current situation report I got from them:

----------------
Hi,

We are continuing to experience issues with our POP mail platform. The issues relate to unprecedented load hitting the platform. As a consequence, customers may be experiencing either connection issues or delays sending and receiving email. The issues were further compounded by the failure of one of the back end POP mail servers on Sunday evening. We restored the failed mail server overnight and although that alleviated part of the problem, some of the additional load issues being experienced now relate to customers trying to access email that was not available yesterday.

We have a plan in place to upgrade the capacity on the POP mail platform during today and tonight. In the meantime we are manually managing the load on the platform to help to ensure it remains operational.

Due to the unprecendented number of customer calls, we are also seeing problems with our phone system as it struggles to handle the inbound/outbound calls. We will be posting another update this afternoon as more information is available, so please check back in to Mission Control later today for an update.

No email is being lost, it is being queued for delivery. We apologise for any inconvenience these mail issues are causing.

Please be assured that this issue is our highest priority and we have had teams working around the clock since the weekend and have also diverted resources (both human and infrastructure) to solving this problem.

A car battery attached to a bullbar at 100km's hour can kill.

Anyone know if they have fixed their problems yet, or at least for some of their clients? I know my company's email is still down down down.

I was talking to a friend yesterday (who works there) and he's said the mail problems should all be sorted.

Subject: Email delays UPDATE - June 22 2007 8:30am AEST
Date: Friday 22-Jun-2007 12:00 AM UTC
Comments:

Friday, 22 June 2007 - 8:30am
- The mail platform is continuing to perform well
- Customers are able to send and receive email as normal
- The work last night progressed well but is still ongoing
- Less than 10% of customers are still not able to view email that was stored in their mailboxes prior to Wednesday evening
- These affected mailboxes will be restored gradually as work progresses throughout the day

The issues relate to unprecedented load hitting the platform.
I wonder what could have resulted in this. Maybe there was a massive customer that changed their mail platform all in one go to something that checked for email every 10 nanoseconds from a couple thousand client PCs

Everybody writing to their local MP about the broadband fiasco I bet..

In other news, I think they have something like 35+ mail servers now - back in my day there was 12.

I think they have a new deal going, not sure but I think it's like $50 a month you get unlimited mailboxes. I recommended it to our national IT guy and he put it on for the whole aus/nz organisation. In under a week. So if he did that, I wonder how many other companies did that, and did it just balloon out and smack webcentral in the back of the head?

well, the emails have been slow in the afternoons for 4 weeks. So it's been a building problem not an over night thing.

what is this 'webcentral' you speak of, is it the center of the internets?

Been a hassle at work too, "oh, I can't get my emails on my phone / blackberry / wireless broadband enabled laptop",
"Is your email with Webcentral?"
"Yes, but I don't see what THAT has to do with it!"
and clearly it all must be Telstra's fault, rolleyes.
