A multiplayer demo for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 has been released, and you can download it locally from AusGamers (there's a torrent available for it as well). Unfortunately in typical Ghost Recon style, at first glance it appears to have somewhat poor dedicated server support (and our request for more information on running dedicated servers went unanswered) so it remains to be seen if this will be worth downloading just yet. |

Sounds like the same story as the first one, crappy port to PC. Just play it on 360 where it rocks.

We just LAN'ed it up a bit last night (it also patched itself as soon as I loaded it) here at the Vault an it was good fun :)
Draw distance leaves something to be desired as do line of sight I rate it as promising and look forward to the real deal We should be giving it another decent run this evening with a couple of other lads when they come round! |

I gave the original one a go that CeMax posted a link to (and trog later on)... I didn't think my PC was s*** but at the lowest setting for everything it's still unplayable. I want the old, old Ghost Recon that's set out in the jungle and stuff, and you can switch between the members of your squad and stuff.

Original Ghost Recon is still one of my absolute fav's for co-op lannage. I remember playing through all the missions on the original + the 2 expansions in an all-nighter, 'twas the juice!
If you track it down then it'd be worth your while locating the Harntrox MODs for it. Crazy co-op vs 200+ AI, sometimes they just come at you in waves... it's sweet as. |

It is a lot of fun,
Don't think of it as a BF2 replacement but a revamped OLD SCHOOL Rogue Spear. Very cool run and gun style of play. Clan's with vent/TS2 & coordination would make this game very competitive. We tried cat & mouse, as well as normal TDM and found it quite excellent. |

Draw distance is fine, it's set for a mid-day haze and is realistic. No it's not... Once you get to the full distance you can see parts of the model disappear eg, you can see the tip of a rifle and their hands up to their elbows. Also, you can be laying prone near an edge and cannot aim further down than a 30 degree angle Other than those extremely minor annoyances, it's a f***ing brilliant bit of fun! 8/10 |

Also, you can be laying prone near an edge and cannot aim further down than a 30 degree angle yeah I found this in GRAW, try to lay down & sneak along and all of a sudden I'll be looking at the sky |

I have been enjoying the demo as there are some significant improvements over GRAW1. The introduction of new weapons and a new game mode is also welcome.
I will be more interested to see how many Aussies play the Retail release and how many Aussie Servers there are. GRAW1 was not released with SADS and this contributed to it not becoming popular in Australia. The SADS for GRAW2 was not made available for the Demo but the Dev's have assured the Community that it will be made available to all and sundry upon Retail release. The SADS will not require a CD/DVD in the optical drive of the computer running the SADS, no CD Key will be required to run the SADS, you do not have to buy a copy of the game to get a copy of the SADS...omg it sounds like proper SADS :) I just hope that they have made a linux version of the SADS. |

I will be more interested to see how many Aussies play the Retail release and how many Aussie Servers there are.I suspect the number of servers will be directly proportional to the number of complaining Australians on their forums, so get cracking :) The more noise you make about dedicated server software the more likely it is they'll take you seriously. I am more than happy to be a point contact for Ubisoft (as they well know) on what features their software should have in order to be useful to gamers from a server standpoint. |

All Ghost Recon games have come with a "dedicated server" - but historically they have been servers you can only activate form within the game and run from within the game - meaning you need to be able to run a full screen 3d accelerated application to run a server.
Most game servers (at least, all the ones we ever use) don't have 3d cards. Running a fullscreen 3d app uses 100% of the CPU to do anything, so it means you can effectively only run 1 server per whole box (as opposed to say, Counter-Strike where you can run as many servers as you want as long as the total amount of CPU usage for each one doesn't exceed the capacity of the box). Further, many times you need the game CD/DVD in the drive to actually start the server (...because you're actually starting the game). Most game servers (at least, ours) don't even have CD/DVD drives. A dedicated server should have the following CORE features to be actually useful: * freely available (anyone should be able to run a server) * should run in console mode, or be a very simple GUI app * should not require the DVD or CD to run * should be able to set settings in a config file and by command line (and should come with a default config file) * should be able to bind to specific IP and port Needless to say there's a stack of other features, but its a good start |

pretty sure this one ain't a console port, but rather a separate PC-specific game. Still might not be very well optimised though :P
Billy: I still have a boxed version of the original Ghost Recon you could have for a nominal fee :) |

Yeh, I've read that as well, but I'll believe it when I see it. My big question is, if they have that already, WHY NOT PUT IT IN THE DEMO!?!?!? Considering your MP demo is an ADVERTISEMENT for your game, surely you should make it accessible as possible to as many people as you can??!!oneone

I suspect that the SADS has software that UBI does not want to be public until the Retail release. Thats all I could think of.
