Hi, I'm on the bigpond adsl 1.5mb plan.

Recently I've noticed that my download speed is capped (or something) to 160kb/s, no matter what site i'm downloading from (even ausgamers), torrents, you name it.. It wont go over. It sits on 159 constant, which is the reason i think it could be a cap of some sort. I never use my 10gb/month, so im not shaped.

I bought a new computer last week, fresh install of windows, all different hardware, still the same thing. Could it be my modem? (can give details of the modem if needed), but the net goes straight from that to my computer, no networks or anything.

Or should I ring telstra and say wtf mate?

1.5Megabits per second relates to 187.5KiloBytes per second. Allowing for not a perfect connection, a bit of overhead etc expect around 10-15%. Therefore giving you a maximum download rate of about 160kbps or so. If you want more, there are ADSL2 and Cable options available.

You signed up for 1.5 Megabits/sec and you are getting 1.5 Megabits/sec (which is roughly 150-160 kilobytes/sec).

You don't even need ADSL2. You can get 8Mbps on regular ADSL if you desire.

Done, rar. I guess I've been expecting more out of it as the last time i lived at home (was at college at uq before now) I had adsl2, and before that cable :S, didn't realise adsl was so s***, haha. Thanks for the help anyway.
